Implants

Implants have greatly improved within the past ten years, they have become easy to place, predictable, affordable and cosmetically acceptable.

What are implants?

Implants are titanium cylinders that take the place of the roots of lost teeth. They are surgically placed in the gum and bone of the jaw and allowed to heal. After six months of healing the implants are uncovered and ready to have the crown of the tooth placed on top of the implant. The healing cap is placed for two weeks and then a post screwed into the implant, impressions taken and the crown is either screwed into the post or cemented on at the next appointment. Single crowns or bridges can be placed on the implants to replace the missing teeth.

Dentures

For people who have no teeth and wear dentures can also benefit from implants. Originally implants were designed to help the full denture patient. Usually lower dentures are really loose and having 2 to 5 implants holding the denture will make it rock solid. The denture is made to fit the implants using some sort of attachment. Eating becomes much easier and the quality of life improves.
