Here is a letter I received in two parts. The sender didn't provide a
name, but it's a great letter nontheless ...
(part 1)
Subject: Emma is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!
Andrew,
You're right in all your thinking!!! With you & your wife's positive
images of Emma she can't help but be successful!! My sister Rita, age 36,
is a real success story. She is really awesome and she didn't have what all
is available today. Let Emma soar she deserves it & so do you. When people
try to give you sympathy, explain to them my daughter is handicapable not
handicapped. Always show the joy she gives you I always do. Keep up the
good work and enjoy your little angel, she will be yours forever!
(part 2)
Boy do I have the tales. My sister is 36 and has Downs Syndrome. You're
right when you say it can be a blessing! She is AWESOME!!! She graduated in
1986 and has worked fulltime since 1989. She is an artist and enjoys square
dancing. She is a bundle of joy that is the glue to our family. She is also
blessed with a family who loves her dearly. She is one of 6 girls (the baby)
and we all live in the same town and are very attached. She still lives with
Mom & Dad ages 73 & 76. She still loves Santa and the Easter Bunny! What a
blessing. I wish I had a scanner to send a picture as she is precious!!!
She is very outgoing and determined to thrive.
Here's another letter from a chap in Holland ... By the way - a "Dismal Jimmy"
is the sort of person who only see's the worst side of things in life, a kind of "Glass is half empty"
type off chap.
Subject: Emma is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!
Hi Andrew,
just visited your site and enjoyed the pics. Especially the one that shows Emma looking like a homeless lady.
We,ve got a daughter with Downs too. Your site draw my attention because you used the word Downie. A word we use here all the time. We dont encouter the word in English site's often.
We got a website too which I started making a few days after Summer was born. Hope you visit it sometime too.
Lots of hugs from the Netherlands. (I was thinking of sending it in Dutch but didnt know for sure if you could read or understand it)
groetjes

Here is a letter from Moira Sanders, a sort of E-Mail wake in the cheerfull
Irish sense; the sort where they celebrate the life rather that mourn the deat of a lovesone ...
Subject: Alan
Today we said goodbye to our wonderful Downie friend. Alan Loveluck. Alan
died a week ago, he would have been 57 next month. The only funeral I've
ever been to that had everyone laughing as they celebrated a wonderful life.
Alan was a little person in size but as someone said today, how can such a
little man leave such a big space in your heart.
I hope you don't think that this is a miserable mail. Alan was a beautiful
man (not a boy ! as he always reminded us!) He is an innocent soul who
touched so many of us.
I knew him for only 4 short years , but my partner has known him for most of
his life. (40+ years)
He is deeply loved as such a lovely kind man, a funny and loving friend.
He loved the pretty ladies, ... all the ladies in his life loved him back.
Alan's sisters Pam and Barbara are devasted by his loss as we all are, but
today and for lots of days to come we will celebrate the life and the
contribution Alan made to us.
He is the only Downie I have had as a loving friend and I hope it will not
be the last.
To know a Downie and be loved by them is wonderful. They are the beautiful
innocents in our lives.
