“Healing by helping others”

February 2005

Message from our Regional Director

Good-Morning America

Yesterday, I was so excited as I sat glued in front of the TV waiting to see my twinless twin friends!  I had gone out of town Tuesday so I could watch it with my husband.  Little did I know that I had received an email from an RD in the New York/New Jersey area Tuesday evening telling me that the producer had called her and said that the taping was postponed for a few weeks.  I’m sorry if you spent time taping it or just sat there waiting. I was so excited that I had gotten the information to all of you in time!.  At least, we all know now that we are to experience six more weeks of bad weather!  Do you realize then that we should have a beautiful week-end in Frederick on March 19 and 20 since that occurs three days after the six week time period has expired?  We’ll have to wait to see if the weather predictors are as right as they were at Deep Creek Lake..  Those of you that were there will understand what that means!!

In twinship and in love,

Mid-Atlantic Regional Director

Mid-Atlantic Regional News

I am excited about getting together in Frederick, MD again for our upcoming spring meeting on Saturday, March 19, 2005. Our region has come a long way since we first met in Frederick in October 2002!  We have come to know each other so well and bonds have formed that will last a lifetime!

Looking back at our first dinner meeting in Frederick, one twin wrote that coming to Frederick was "the most positive thing I have done in over a year since the death of my twin brother". Then she said, "You have given me the hope to reach for life again. I hope someday that I can reach out to someone as you have to me."

I hope that all of you will consider putting a day or two aside to experience the encouragement, love and support of other twinless twins as you continue along your difficult journey. If you are coming for the first time, don’t worry about walking into a room of strangers alone. I promise you that we won’t remain strangers for long! Just ask our regional twins who have already begun to experience the healing that comes through being with other twinless twins. You are not alone.

Our meeting will be held again at the Hampton Inn in Frederick, MD. in the Ft. Detrick Room. The address is 5311 Buckeystown Pike.  The manager and sales staff are excited that we are returning again!  Please remember to thank the employees at the Hampton Inn for all they do to make us feel at home.  For those who plan to spend the night we have a block of rooms that are being held for $84 a night plus tax which includes a deluxe breakfast.  Their phone number is 301-698-2500.  When you call to book a room identify yourself as being with "TWI" room block. These rooms will be held at the above rate until February 25.

Our Saturday meeting will begin promptly at 9:00 am. Arrangements have been made for lunch again in the heart of the Frederick’s Historic District at Brewer’s Alley.  There is a municipal parking garage located directly behind the restaurant.  You can check it out at http://www.brewers-alley.com.  They are located at 124 North Market St. in a beautiful old 120-year-old building!  Dinner will again be at Dutch’s Daughter, Frederick’s favorite seafood restaurant. Check it out at http://www.dutchs.info.

Between lunch and dinner you will have free time to explore Historic Frederick on your own - fifty blocks of preserved 18th and 19th century buildings make up the Frederick Town Historic District. There are many options:

The Community Bridge- This is a MUST see! I saw it last time and plan to see it again! A community transformed a plain concrete bridge into the painted illusion of an old, ivy-covered stone bridge. You can check it out at www.sharedvision.org

The Historical Society of Frederick County Museum

The National Museum of Civil War Medicine( www.civilwarmed.org)

Monocacy National Battlefield

Many opportunities for shopping for antiques and unique gifts

Those of you that have been there before can check out information in the Destination Frederick Brochure that you received at our meeting.  I will be bringing more of them with me.  All the directions to the above locations will be handed out on Saturday morning.

Sunday, breakfast will be on your own at the hotel. Then it will be time for all the "twin hugs" until we meet again!
