Palm Island,
St. Vincent and the Grenandines

Lee passed away on Palm Island in the Caribbean while on a Windjammer cruise. He was swimming with friends and when he came out of the water he picked up his towel and moved it under a palm tree and laid down by himself. He then quietly and peacefully passed away while under the shade of that palm tree. He died doing what he loved most in this world, unfortunately he died too soon.

There is a very moving ritual on a Windjammer ship known as "raising the sails." First the ship fires it’s cannon and all hands take to the ropes and raise the sails. Once the sails are up everyone quietly watches the sails catch the wind. In the background you can hear the sounds of "Amazing Grace." I have never experienced the emotion that many have felt during this ritual, I only know of it because of Lee. He said there was nothing more beautiful than raising the sails and listening to the bagpipes playing "Amazing Grace." Below is an excerpt from a shipmate who was on the cruise with Lee.

"At swizzle time, in unison, the captains of the three ships made an announcement that a fellow shipmate had passed away on the beach that afternoon. In tribute, each ship was to fire one cannon blast, first the Mandalay, then the Yankee Clipper, then the Polynesia. After the cannons had been fired, each ship played a version of "Amazing Grace" from their loud speakers and then there was a moment of silence. The flag was lowered to half mast. It was so quiet… most everyone, even those who didn’t know Lee, had tears and many of us openly cried."
