The groups listed below are not considered official Nicotine Anonymous groups, However, some are "officially sanctioned" by Nicotine Anonymous World Services Office (NAWSO), and are marked as such by the "*** NAWSO - Approved ***" designation. However, all of the groups listed on this page, be they NAWSO-approved or not are operated by Nicotine Anonymous members who have experience with the Nicotine Anonymous program. Most operators ask that participants of their groups have a desire to quit using nicotine (or if already quit, a desire to stay quit). This club is by far the most active of all online Nicotine Anonymous groups.
The associated chatroom is at the same address. Check the "calendar" link there for the latest chat schedule, but here it is as of 11/20/00 (all times are U.S. Eastern Times, meetings last about an hour): Mon: 11am, 830pm. Tue: 9pm. Wed: 11am, 9pm. Thu: 830pm. Fri: 9pm. Sat: 11am, 8pm. The club's introductory message in part says: "This is an unofficial Nicotine Anonymous discussion group. | Compuserve's Recovery Forum (GO RECOVERY) Nicotine Addiction Section (http://go.compuserve.com/Recovery?AREA=Msgs&SEC=8). | Compuserve has a very active forum called the Recovery forum. One section of it is devoted to nicotine addiction. If you are a Compuserve member, you access this forum via GO RECOVERY. If not, you can access it by the web address to the left. |

People without a "newsreader" can access newsgroups via web-based newsreaders at Deja (www.deja.com) or Remarq (www.remarq.com) or Talkaway (www.talkaway.com). Deja.com has an email mode and an email digest mode where you can have all postings to the newsgroup emailed to you in one daily message. See Note 2 for more on deja.com etc.
This newsgroup has been almost completely inactive for several months (as of November 2000). So your participation will make a substantial difference! And almost effortless, as you can have all messages emailed to you (grouped into one daily digest per day) if you wish. |

Note 1: About yahoo groups mailing lists: One can choose the "digest" mode where all messages for a day are bundled together into one big email message and sent to you once a day. This is very helpful for high-volume mailing lists if you are concerned about being deluged with dozens of individual email messages a day. Alternatively, if you don't want to get email at all (either individual emails or a daily digest), you can specify a "read on the web" mode. You can then go to the indicated link and read both current and past messages, very similar to a message board.
Note 2: About web-based newsreaders for reading newsgroups: I (JimL) am familiar only with deja.com. It has an email mode and an email digest mode where you can have all postings to the newsgroup emailed to you in one daily message. It also has a "thread tracker" mode where it will email you an alert if any threads you designate have postings to them. Deja's search is also superb. But reading messages is tedious, as it is click and wait, one message at at time, and one message per page. In contrast, Remarq shows a whole thread (up to 10 or 20 messages or some reasonable limit) per page. But remarq's search was miserable the last time I used it, almost a year ago.
