Chen's Garden 4/26/2001

Eleven people attended. Cashew chicken was a popular choice. There were some obvious mistakes (sauce on tables, noodles served with soup), but otherwise seemed to be OK. Gordy brought homemade GF fortune cookies. Here is the recipe. Note: the recipe makes about 60!

We discussed the proposed Symposium in October, and collected signatures to help Grace get funding grants.

We briefly discussed the desire to get together for a potluck. Gordy will arrange a meeting at Crabtree park (by RDU) on a Sunday afternoon in June.

Gordy distributed two videotapes of Rich Gannon's CNN interview.

Here are a couple of similar photos. Click on them to see a larger version.

The original meeting announcement is shown below.

TGFG Dining at Chen's Garden

Join us for an evening of Chinese food and gluten-free conversation!

Where: At Chen's Garden in North Raleigh (Millbrook & Atlantic)
When: Thursday April 26
Time: Starting at 6 PM, or whenever you get there
How: Order off the regular menu
Cost: As listed on the menu. Half of the entrees are $7.25 or less. Remember to add beverages, tax and tip.

BEFORE April 23, please e-mail gordy_k@hotmail.com or phone him at 231-9563 to let him know how many people will attend, or if you have any questions.

I discussed our requirements with the owner and left a Celiac Restaurant card. She said most entrees can be prepared GF. I have eaten there several times.

Directions: If coming from the west, take the I-440 inner beltline to Old Wake Forest Road (exit 10), then make a left to go under I-440. Continue North, and turn right on Millbrook Road. Cross the railroad tracks and turn right (just before Atlantic). There is a Kroger in the same shopping center.

I will bring a bottle of GF soy sauce to the restaurant. Ask for it to be used on your meal if you wish, or specify Chen's white sauce (made with cornstarch). Chen's regular soy sauce contains wheat!

There is no formal program planned for this evening. I will collect your suggestions during the evening for where, when and how often to meet again for this type of event in Raleigh.
