My name is James Leicht. My friends call me Jim. I know text pages get a little boring, so I'll be as brief as I can. I'm 31 years old and have been married for 7 years. My wife's name is Michelle, and we got married 6 months after I started paramedic school. Any body who has ever gone to paramedic school knows there is not enough pressure in school. So I had to add a little more by starting out a new marriage on top of all the other requirements. I started out as a Jr. firefighter in York New Salem PA. (York Co. Sta. 8) on my 16th birthday. This October (1999) I'll celebrate 15 years of service in the fire and ems services. As a first responder at the age of 18 I started running with Amb. 62 in Seven Valleys PA. I then became an emt and served with Sta. 3 & Amb. 3 in Thomasville PA. I also volunteered for York Hospital in the er until moving to Sebring FL in 1989. I have served from time to time as a volunteer firefighter, but my true love is ems. I graduated top of my class from paramedic school in 1994 and am currently employed by Polk Co. EMS. I am a preceptor for emt and paramedic students and a new employee precteptor(FTO). I work one of the busiest zones Polk Co. has. I just got my call stats for the last six months, and I personally ran over 800 calls. I would like to take the time to thank my very first instructor, Kay Carmen. Kay without you none of this would have been possible. Kay told me to always excel and never give up. I never will forget all that free advice you gave me. It helped me become a strong emt. I'd also like to thank Mary Hulverson "The Witch". Any one who knows Mary will know the nickname is here trade mark. Mary was my first paramedic preceptor and without her I don't think I would have made it through paramedic school. Wow 15 years seems to fly when you are "brief". To any body thinking of going to paramedic school, I'll offer this adivce. Make sure you want it. Medic school is not going to make you rich. Well that's not true, you won't get a bunch of money. However, when you get a "save" you will be the richest person in the world.
