Who do you think of when you hear the word "hero"? A famous athlete? A movie star? Every day in our community, real life heroes save the lives of children and adults with cancer and other medical conditions by donating a portion of their blood called platelets. Platelets are a part of the blood that help us to stop bleeding, and many people being treated for their illness don't have enough of their own to survive.
