Interstitial Disease


Clinical presentation:

70 year old male was a welsh coal miner for 35 years. He gave a history of increasing breathlessness.

The Image

Features in the Image

There are ill-defined masses in both mid and upper zones with an increase in pulmonary linear shadowing and distortion of the underlying pulmonary vessels. There is peripheral reticulo-nodular shadowing in both mid-zones.

General Features in Interstitial Disease

These diseases include Congestive Heart Failure and various Interstitial Fibroses. Watch for Septal lines (Kerley B lines - distended lymphatics), honeycombing, irregular linear opacities (reticular pattern). These diseases are often chronic with a slow X-ray resolution.

Massive Pulmonary Fibrosis in Silicosis.
