I found your information on the internet about male breast cancer very interesting and informative. I have referred some of our male breast cancer participants to your website. I am the Manager of Clinical Research at the University of Utah, Division of Genetic Epidemiology. We are currently researching male breat cancer and seeking participants. I have included below the information we use to recuit male breast cases on the i ternet. I would be very grateful if you could refer any male breast cases you are aware of to our study. If you have any expenses (for example, a secretary looking at records and/or contacting patients, letters, postage, etc), we would be happy to reimb rse you. Thank you for your consideration to this request. Linda Steele The University of Utah, department of Genetic Epidemiology is currently researching male breast cancer. In 1994, our department in collabooration with others isolated the BRCA1 gene and located the BRCA2 gene. In 1996, the BRCA2 gene was isolated. A la ge majority of families containing both male and female breast cancers are due to the breast cancer gene BRCA2. We are specifically looking at the relationship between male breast cancer and the BRCA2 gene. If you have been diagnosed with breast cancer and are male, we would like to invite you to participate in our study. We will ask you to provide a small blood sample, answer a questionnaire, answer questions about cancer history within your family, and si n a medical release form so we can obtain your medical records pertaining only to cancer. There will be no cost to you and we will provide the materials necessary for your participation. Your information will be kept completely confidential. If you wou d like to participate in our study or if you would like more information please contact Linda Steele by e-mail (linda@episun4.med.utah.edu) or by phone - toll-free at 1-877-893-GENE(4363) or (801) 587-9303.
