HI, and welcome to my home page!!

The Department of Anaesthesia & ICU in Ahmadi Hospital is part of the Medical Group of the Kuwait Oil company. The Hospital provides services to all the oil sector employees and their eleligible families. Approximately over 3000 anaesthetic administrations are done in a year. The department consists of 6 anaesthetists currently headed by Dr.Giridhar Rao.After the retirement of Dr.Mujib Ahmad Sharif in 2001, Dr.Rashmi Madan from All India Institute of Medical sciences, New Delhi headed the department for an year between 2002 to 2003.The other members are Dr.Abdul Halim Ghazi, Dr. Jeyadev, Dr.T.V.Srinivasan and Dr. Antonio Lima Dias.

Safety, Quality assurance, State of the art technology and keeping abreast with current lirterature has been the bastion of the department. Laryngeal Mask anaesthesia and Fiberoptic intubation have been our special interests. Dr.Andranik Ovassapian from Northwestern University Medical school, Chicago, Illinois visited our department in 1995, and we gained hands on experience in Fiberoptic laryngobronchoscopy in his presence. Our relentless persuit of learning this technique paid rich dividends and now it is a matter of routine in our daily practice.

The Hospital introduced an ambitious project of Hospital Information system in late 1996 with the support of Information technology and Information systems of Kuwait Oil company. An integrated Star Navigator system of HBO-ACI of Atlanta provided the software, training and implementation. I was one of the team of co-ordinators, representaing the surgical services Division; with the concerted efforts of individual coordinators of various disciplines, and great team work the System was launched in September 1997, the first of its kind in Kuwait.

The Department of Anaesthesia went one step ahead with a future vision of introducing the Anaesthesia Information Management system (AIMS). The request for proposal has been made and it is likely by the end of 1999, the Hospital should be having an Automated Anaesthesia delivery system and an Automated Anaesthesia Record Keeping (AARK) system. We acquired the Datex AS/5 and Dieo recorder and we were successful in interlinking the induction room and the main thetaer with a network connection to Anaesthesia office. Interfacing the Anaesthesia Information system to the existing Hospital Information should be our final goal. It is proposed to install the Datex- Engstrom for the Automated Anaesthesia system.
