On 1 July of 1862, Robert E. Lee launched up the sixth battle of seven days (Seven Days Battle). He sent many attacks on the merely unbreakable position. He suffered 5,300 casualties without any ground taken.
Union General George B. McClellan came to Harrison's Landing protected by gunboats.
