Helping someone who suffers from an ED


Too many people think that eating disorders are only about weight, food and so on! But that' s not true! This disease is about much more!
Please never forget that an eating disorder affects a person 24 hours a day, 7 days in the week! So be patient with them!
Below is a list of "Do's and Don' ts" in helping someone with an ED!

D O ' s :

+ Do express your love and your support!
+ Do recognize that other, non-food, factors are the heart of the problem.
+ Do gently encourage them to eat properly.
+ Do listen to them, although the talk may seem unimportant to you.
+ Do encourage them to express their feelings.
+ Do help them find someone to support them, who knows what they are going through.
+ Do try understand, although this may seem impossible.

D O N ' T s:

+ Don' t force them to eat.
+ Don' t get angry or punish them.
+ Don' t be impatient.
+ Don' t place the blame on anyone.
+ Don' t pretend it will all just go away.
+ Don' t expect an instant recovery.

+ Just sit down and eat like a normal person.

+ Just eat this, you' ll just go and throw it up any ways, so what dose it matter.
+ I wish I had your problems.
+ I' ll give you 6 months to get over this.
+ Quit feeling sorry for yourself.
+ You are just doing this for attention.
