LIVING IN A SEA OF FOG

Not For All, But For Some, Low Vision Users can customize MS Windows and Browser Screens to a Low Density, High Contrast, color configuration. Here are some basic colors to compare. If all the colors are the same ... your browser already has a preset color selection. To change color selection go to your browser.

1. Open your browser Preference/Options.

2. Go to Color.

3. Select colors for Text, Active Links, Inactive Links, and Background. Be sure to select to always use Your Custom Color Selection option.

4. Use any colors You Can See. Ignore any colors You Can Not See. Eliminate any colors you find too Bright. No Pastel colors, or "fills". Just because your monitor has 256 colors does not mean you can see , or clearly differentiate between, more than 16 colors !

5. No Background Colors. Use only black or contrasting dark colors. The surface light output of a large screen monitor [with light color screen background] can generate enough defused light to look like a White-Out In A Snow Storm or a Spot Light In A Fog Bank.

6. Try Bright Green or Yellow as "Text" and Link color. A dark or black background makes green or yellow text stand out like Fog Lights At Night.

7. OK, Close, and Return, to browser screen.

ADJUSTING WINDOWS 3.1 AND 3.11 COLORS:

1. Open your Windows 3.1, or 3.11, Program.

2. Go go to Main, go to Control Pannel, go to Desktop.

3. Reduce "Sizing Width" to narrow broad borders.

4. Eliminate Background Wallpaper to [none] for no color or design. When you increase fonts or magnify screen images you can loose text against a color or wallpaper design background.

5. Close Desktop and verify adjustments.

6. Go to Main, go to Control Pannel, go to Color, open Color Pallette.

7. Select colors for Text, Active Links, Inactive Links, and Background.

8. No Pastel colors, or fills.
Just because your monitor has 256 colors does not mean you can see more than 16 colors !

9. "Pen-Stripe" Border outlines and Highlight Buttom edges.

10. No Background Colors.
Use only black or contrasting dark colors. The surface light output of a large screen monitor [with light color screen background] can generate enough defused light to look like a White-Out In A Snow Storm or a Spot Light In A Fog Bank.

11. Use any colors You Can See. Ignore any colors You Can Not See. Eliminate any colors Too Bright To See. Without the black background the fog returns, and we are awash in a Sea - Of - Light.

12. Try Bright Green or Yellow as "Text" and Link color. A dark or black background makes green or gold text stand out like Fog Lights At Night.

13. Save your custom color configutation. Close Colors and check your custom color selection.

14. Repeat if necessary to correct the selection.

ADJUSTING WINDOWS 95+ COLORS:

1. Open your Windows 95+ Program.

2. Go to Start Buttom [press].

3. Go to Run [type: PROGMAN], check OK and enter.

4. Your screen now takes on the appearance of a Windows 3.+ Program Manager "look alike" display. Which looks and works like Program Manager for Windows 3.+.

5. Go to Main, go to Control Pannel and adjust colors [see above: #6 thru #11]. Save and exit.

6. Go to Main, go to Display and adjust Font Size and Text Color. Save and exit.

7. Repeat if necessary to correct the selection.
