we share many similarities steven. for one we both have the same birthday, may 22, although i was born in 1982. more importantly we share the same illness, severe aplastic anemia. i feel relieved for you and your family that you have endured this horrif c journey. may your future be bright and full of challenges. Your site is lovely! i have just returned from southampton general hospital england where my 6 year old daughter Anna is with my wife. Anna was diagnosed with aplastic anaemia just over 3 weeks ago and i think we are still in shock! I chose your story because your son is a similar age to Anna (born 25.4.94)and i am glad i did - the photographs are super. Unfortunately Annas sister sarah was not a match and therefor drug treatment started yesterday. Thanks for the story....my cousin was just diagnosed with AA and unfortunately his brother is not a match for BMT...he just started drug therapy which we are all hoping will help...he will turn 20 on april 18...and hopefully will be home from the hospital and starting the road to recovery....in the meantime, he is fighting low grade fevers...our family is praying for a donor match for him since the doctors say it's his best chance...please keep my cousin kenny in your prayers too...

What an inspiring story! I am 32 and have had SAA for 18 months, Ive done 2 cycles of ATG. The last was 4 months ago. I am waiting and praying for my counts to rise. They are very low right now, but I havent had a transfusion is 9 weeks! I do not have sibling donor, but I do have a matched unrelated donor (6 out of 6) if i need to take that road. God bless.

Our grand daughter has aplastic anemia and we too had the atg treatments that didn't work. we just finished the chemo treatments last week. this week she is in the hospital with the fever and all they told us she would get. thank you so much for your stor . one must know that there are not always good responses to treatments and that there are others available. we hope he continues to do well. we will keep him and so many others in our prayers and hope you will do the same. again we thank you for your stor . :)

In August of 1997, we took my then 18 year old daughter to the doctor with severe brusing- no other symptoms- she had energy and felt fine. We were rushed to a pediatric hematologist, Dr. Jayabose a Westchester Medical Center (the best dr. in the world!) The following week she was diagosed with severe aplastic anemia. Theythought it might be Fanconi's anemis- thank goodness it wasn't. Luck was with us- our 17 year old son was a perfect match and the transplant happened on Sept. 1, 1997. Today, my dau hter is doing great. You'd never know she had been ill- her recovery went very smoothly. I am glad your son is doing well- we pray for all these children to continue to do well and live long, and healthy lives. Good luck.

My boyfriend was diagnosed with AA two and a half years ago. Like Steven, he too was miraculously healed by the grace of God... and has also suffered a relapse. Brandon,17 years old, has no bone marrow matches and the doctors say that Chemotheropy is hi only hope. After praying for another miracle for six months, we finally decided that he should do the chemo. He started this morning. I am thankful to God and to you that I found your webpage. My husband is facing a Stem Cell Transplant maybe in September. We are still wating to find out how much more chemo he is due to have. He too, will be entering UCLA. We live about 2 hours away. He was first dx with Non Hodkins Lymphoma 6 years ago and enjoyed a 5 1/2 year remission. I cannot imagine going through this with one of my children, yours are absoluetely beautiful, and no child should have to endure what Steven has, enoy him and looks like things are going smoothly, and give hime a little kiss for me. I was surfing through the AA pages and came to Steven's Home Page. It brought back many memories of when I was nine years old and was told that I had aplastic anemia. The memories never seem to go away but I was very fortunate and was completely cured, ven after I was sent home from the hospital to spend my last Christmas with my family. I am now 61 years old and I have not had any symptoms since around age 12. Since I seem to be one of the more fortunate victims of AA, I wish there was something that I could do for others who are still suffering. My wife and I have two great boys, age 26 and 31 and we were very concerned that I might pass this AA disease on to them. Fortunately this did not happen and they have both grown up to be healthy and free of any diseases. Even after 50 years, hardly a day goes by that I do not think about my bout with AA. I just wish there was something that I could do for others. I keep thinking that since I was cured, perhaps I have something in my blood that could help others. A lot f people helped me when I needed it by giving blood and doing whatever they could for me. Forgive me for rambling a little here, but even after all these years I still get a ittle emotional when I discuss the events surrounding my years with aplastic anemia. We have something in common. My 4 year old daughter had SAA and had MUD BMT on 11-4-98. All is OK with some GVH/central line complications. She was diagnosed with SAA 1-6-98 and has undergone ATG therapy also.

Hi there Steven. My name is Paige and I have Apastic Anemia. I was DX Aug 18 1998. I started Bruising and bleeding from a loose tooth, and the blood blisters. I have had the ATG and other drug thereaps and I am now begining to respond to the gm-csf shots hat I take every morning. But I know who is making me better!!!! I hope that I continue to respond to the treatment. I really hope that you do well to I know that it is hard,I had just started first grade when I got sick I did get to go 4 days and now I h ve to stay home and take homeschool from my mommy and my first grade teacher. Thank you for sharing Steven's travails. It can imagine the pain that you must have felt, but sometimes it's the patient himself that has to be the bravest. I am 100 days out of cytoxan therapy for super severe aplastic anemia, and it is nice to know there are others who understand this experience.
