Steven at Home with Sister and Family

Steven released from UCLA

Steven was released from UCLA on January 26, 1998. 34 days after his Bone Marrow Transplant. His counts were doing well and his Graft Versus Host Disease was under control. The first thing he said when we got home was "When is Serena coming back? She is going to make me better." Now, we have always felt Serena was a gift from God, and would help in Steven's healing process, now Steven felt the same. Steven couldn't wait to see his sister. It has been about a month and a half since he'd seen her. And he was counting the minutes till he could see her again. She was brought back from Nana and Papa Smith's house the following day. Needless to say, they both were ecstatic to see one another. And the Healing process began.

We are very carefull with Steven since we've been home, and don't want anything to get in the way of his recovering fully from this disease. He hasn't been able to lead the life a 4 year old should be able to lead and we try to make it as pleasant as possible. We spend our days playing outside, when the weather is good. We go for daily walks, and tricycle rides. And weekly his Nana Koss and I take both the kids on a long walk. Which is usually about 10 miles. We stop on our walks for ice cream and picnic lunches.

We also work on his ABC and 123's so he will be prepared to go to school in the fall of 1999. I hope he will be ready, as he hasn't been to preschool or had a chance to really be around other kids. We will be sending him to our church's day school. I feel God has done a lot on healing Steven, and would like Steven to be brought up with a good Religious Spiritual background. He will be attending St. Patricks Episcopal Church and Day School in the fall of 1999.
