PERSONAL PROTECTION & SELF-DEFENSE

The Light of God surrounds me, the Love of God enfolds me, the Power of God protects me, the Presence of God watches over me, for wherever I am, God is, and all is well The Light of God surrounds me, the love of God enfolds me, the Power of God protects me, the Presence of God watches over me, for wherever I am, God is, and all is well PRAYER

There are a number of ways to protect ourselves as we go about our daily business. Internally, or mentally, we can say (either aloud or silently) prayers or affirmations. Prayers and affirmations that work well are the Lord's Prayer, and the 23rd Psalm.

Simply saying a prayer asking for protection is a useful method for protecting not only your physical self but also your space.

LORD'S PRAYER (King James Version)

Our Father, Who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy Will be done
On Earth, as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil,
For Thine is the Kingdom,
The Power, and the Glory,
Forever and ever,
Amen

TWENTY-THIRD PSALM

The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul;
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his Name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me;
Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
Thou annointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.

One very good prayer or affirmation is:
THE UNITY SCHOOL PRAYER OF PROTECTION
(mini-meditation)

The light of God surrounds me.
The love of God enfolds me.
The power of God protects me.
The presence of God watches over me.
Wherever I am, God is, and all is well.

You can use this affirmation

Another quick self-protection which is very useful is the

SOLAR DISC

To prevent the entry of any negative energies into the solar plexus chakra, visualize a golden disc of light covering it. Put the disc in place as soon as you enter an emotional atmosphere or when any negative thoughts are being expressed in your presence.

WHITE CLOUDS, FLOWERS, & ENERGY

If you feel plagued by thoughts of someone you'd rather not think of, such as a former love interest, or any other person who keeps popping up negatively in your thoughts (such as someone with whom you've had an altercation), or if you feel that someone is treating you unfairly, there are a couple of interesting and easy things you can do. <.P> Each time thoughts of the person come into your mind, picture that person on a white cloud, and float the cloud away from you. The more you do this, the more automatic it will be, and the less these thoughts will intrude on your consciousness. This is healing for the person who is bothering your thoughts, as well as for you.

You can also make a practice of sending a (imaged) white flower to the person as often as thoughts of this person come into your mind. Pelting the person with visualized white flowers is probably overkill, but it can feel very satisfying.

Sending white light to the person is another version of the same action. You simply envision a white light going out from your heart and surrounding and enfolding that person completely.

SEA SALT BATH OR SHOWER

You can pour a handful of sea salt into your bath water, and soak in it for five to ten minutes. If you prefer to shower, you can mix sea salt with water in a bowl, and then pat this mixture all over your head and body. Let this dry until it feels tingly (maybe a little unpleasant, actually), and then shower it off thoroughly.

For people involved in energy work, particularly with others, it is a good idea to make a habit of taking a sea salt bath or shower at least once a week, to remove any negative energies which might be clinging to the aura.

One thing often overlooked by people involved in healing work is to take a bath or shower before going to bed on days when there has been a lot of energy work. This will avert "energy hangovers" which can occur the next day after one has engaged in a lot of energy work, be it healing of others, or self-development activities.
