About North and the HMV Competition

The High Mileage Vehicle Competition is an annual event, that takes place every April at the University of Wisconsin - Stout (Menomonie, WI). The purpose of the competition is to determine which car, made by high school students, can get the best gas mileage (per mile). This is Eau Claire North's second year of participating in the event. Last year we didn't do so hot as far as placement, but we learned alot. We have six people working on the actual building of the car(Mike Bryn, Mike Froseth, Russ Mueller, Brian Kempen, Wade France, and Charissa Barlow). I (Craig Smith) am in charge of publicity. I am currently working on editing our "highlights" video, getting us featured in the teen section of our local newspaper, getting the local TV station to do a piece on us, and the building and maintaining of this web site. Our advisor is Mr. Jan Bowe, of the Tech. Ed. department. With this year's car we decided to go with a monocode covering, instead of the molded stryofoam we used last year. We also went with a lighter frame, made out of pure aluminum. Last year they used a alloy. We hope to do good. Check here for results around either April 29 or May 6th or 7th. Thanx. .
