This machine gets me and my friends around in comfort and in a bit of style. The Car was brown once upon a time, but after hitting a moose and watching the rust grow by the minute I figured it was time to get it painted. I went out and spent a couple of hundred bucks on Du Pont Black Metallic paint and clearcoat. I asked the guy who mixed it for me if he could add some extra metallic and he did so. I got the paint job done at a private shop in St. John's and would definately recommend this place to anybody that need a bit of bodywork done. The car really shines now and the transformation is amazing.
I started making additions to it soon after my father gave it to me when he bought his new Tacoma pick-up. I started with a Sparkomatic 100watt bass cannon, and then went on to buy a Kraco FX-80 200watt box... come off it, I didn't have a lot of money available. I ran all this from the stock stereo. It wasn't long before I added a Jensen 80 watt amplifier to push the box a little more than the car stereo could. This box held out for all of the summer of '96 and could be found playing at most any celebration or party of that summer... from the St. Jacques Folk Festival to the Grand Falls Salmon Festival.
I left home in the fall to go to school and I went for a ride in my friends mustang. I could feel the bass emanating from his more powerful boxes. I felt it was time for an upgrade.
After this I went to the local car stereo shop and asked what I could get for my current equipment on an upgrade. The guy looked it all over, came up with a new system and offered me a price of $300 on the new equipment along with my old stuff. I then paid a hundred bucks down, and came back a little later with another two hundred borrowed from a friend. They then proceeded to install the new Pryamid Performance Plus 300 watt box and a Craig 250 watt amplifier. Not really a difficult install since I have a hatchback and it is just a matter of running the thick power cable down the car and securing the amp.
I couldn't really afford to do much else with her after that for a while because I still had to party. So I waited until I came back in St. John's after Christmas.
I added an alarm system as soon as I got in and it's working fine. I also have a set of Blazer projector fog lights that fit in the front bumper quite nicely and a set of headlight covers. I also just picked up a gold emblem kit for a Civic Si and so far have the old chrome front emblem replaced with the gold one.
I have a K&N Filter Charger installed on her and it helps a little on the performance and a whole lot on the fuel economy. A Jacob Electronics Ignition system is sitting on my bedroom floor waiting for them to send back the proper plug wires for my car, I am really hoping for a lot from this one since the ignition is stock, eight years old, and has 225,000 kms on it.
I have finally upgraded the stock stereo with a Pioneer KEH-P7400 head unit that's controlling a 12 disc Pioneer CD changer. The improvement of the audio from old tapes in a cheap deck to CD's in this system is really noticeable and I frequently get people to start to dance as I drive near them. :)
I also have a white faced guage kit on the way, more on that along with pics in the future.
I will let you all know about the Jacobs when I install it.
