1979 Ford Pinto

Newly arrived in America and I had to have a car.  I wanted to buy something that was American built and unavailable in England.  I also needed to find something that I could afford to insure and also afford at the gas pumps.  The first ruled out the Escort and Horizon, the second ruled out the fun cars like Mustangs and Camaros and the third ruled out just about everything else.  So I bought the Pinto,  without knowing anything about it.

It was an interesting car - I still don't know how Ford could design a trunk that was so small and with a trunk lid that was so tiny.  Even if the trunk was big enough to take what you wanted,  you couldn't fit it through the opening.  The driving position was also interesting - kind of like sitting in the bath tub I always thought.  Anyway,  I shouldn't be so unkind to the poor old Pinto,  it was another of those cars which just kept going, just add gas every once in a while and it took me sight-seeing all over Southern California with absolutely no mechanical problems ever. However, after a while I realized that this car was boooooring, so......
