1969 Dodge Charger R/T
My personal all time favorite Mopar, the 1969 Dodge Charger. My first car was a 318 1969 Charger, which I sold to my father (he still has it). When I bought this car from the second owner in 1987, it was F8 green with green interior, hubcaps, G78 whitewalls, 318 2bbl with single exhaust. My how things have changed! Now powered by a bone stock 1969 block 383 Magnum with 10.25 to 1 compression, this car will chirp the tires on the second-third shift at 98 mph. (I have a witness!!) I bought the car with only 78,000 miles on it for just $900. The odometer now shows 121,600. I added the 15x7 inch Magnum 500's, wood steering wheel, and Magnum spinner caps. The car still runs the original 3.23 ratio 8 3/4 Sure-Grip rear. Picture is as car appears today.
Before you say it, no, it is not a real R/T. The rear stripe is painted on, not a decal like it should be so I am not really trying to pass it off for something it isn't. And besides that, it isn't for sale. Nothing looks better than a dead straight body painted in black polyeurathane with clear.
This is how the car appeared in October 1996. I painted it Dark Metallic Blue (a stock color) in 1987 when I first restored the car. Paint was in remarkable shape, but was starting to show signs of wear and some minor rust. What started out as just a touch-up here and there became a full color change paint job. The car was stripped to bare metal before it was painted in the black it is now. This picture was taken at my wedding in10/96. The front fender you can just barely see behind my car is my father's 1969 Charger (my first car)
