THUNDERACE YZF1000R

The appearance of the R1 sports missile has seen many Ace owners queuing up to trade in their bikes for one. With so many wanting to swap their Ace, few dealers will hand over top dollar for them, while cheaper unofficial imports have also hit secondhand prices, too. It all adds up to some unhappy sellers , but great news if you are buying used.

The Thunderace has only been around for two years, but you can find good condition, low mileage Thunderaces, complete with a manufacturer's warranty, for around Lm 4600 - compared to Lm 5800 for a brand new machine.

And you get a lot of bike with a Thunderace. It's not the lightest, quickest-steering bike in the world, but its handling is more than adequate for most road riders, as is its monster engine.

For riders who don't want the latest street scratcher and prefer a bike which can munch the motorway miles, the Thunderace is the perfect choice.

Yamaha also has confidence in the Ace - it will continue to be sold alongside the superb R1 for the foreseeable future. As a sports tourer the big Yamaha has all the necessary requirements, with a 1002 cc engine which was developed from the super successful FZR1000 EXUP. It has 145bhp on tap and a motor that has all the grunt you'll ever need.
