Some of the things to do around Deal's Gap

Lukasz & I decided to take a weekend romp up around the mountains of Deal's Gap. It seemed like a great way to spend a late May/Early June weekend. We were not wrong! The weather was cool and crisp and quite cooperative.  Alas, we got there a bit late to get a room in most places and while eating at the only open place (N.O.C.'s restaurant on the river) we were informed there MIGHT be a cabin available. There was indeed and it wasn't much mroe for the entire cabin than for an average hotel room! We signed up and went up to it after dinner.

You have to have a base of operations. This was the cabin we luckily nabbed at Natahala Outdoor Center (N.O.C.). The above left picture is the first view we had upon opening the door. "A den?" It was a pleasant surprise since it was pitch black when we arrived and what we could see didn't look like much.

Relaxing on the deck the next afternoon. The river is behind me and just past a set of RR tracks. On the right is the den. Talk about a pleasant surprise! This is nicer than some apartments I've been to!

With the overnight temps in the mountains dipping into the high 40's it seemed that there was only one thing to do: light the fire and relax!  The pic on the right is of the kitchen area looking down from the loft.

Getting Luke on a horse for the morning (followed shortly by whitewater rafting) proved worth while. It gave us something to laugh about for weeks!  On the right, our cabin from outside the following morning.

A lake that we could only get to by way of horseback. Clear water, COLD clear water!
