History of the Business

David Litwiler, owner and founder of Dave's Auto Restoration, began his work as an apprentice in upholstery and restoration, at Leocy's Coach & Motor Works, in Chardon, Ohio. In September 1967, after gaining 5 years experience in his trained field, Dave rented a 1,200 sq. ft. building located on Route 306 in Mentor, Ohio. This building was to contain an upholstery shop, the first page in the legacy of Dave's Auto Restoration.

In May 1969, Dave moved into a larger facility at 7150 Hart St., Mentor, Ohio. Expansion continued in July 1973, when Dave acquired a body shop, located in the same building complex as the newly opened upholstery shop. With the addition of the body shop, the facility was now 3,400 sq. ft.

The need for space continued to increase, and in June 1980 further expansion was necessary. Dave rented more of the building complex, enlarging the facility to include 6,000 sq. ft. of working space, and 2,000 sq. ft. of storage space.

Then, in August 1986, there was more change. Dave moved his business to its current location in Jefferson, Ohio. The current building is 4,800 sq. ft.

Recently, Dave found the need for more space. Therefore, he is currently in the process of building a separate building. This new facility will contain a 5,000 sq. ft. painting area, and a 5,000 sq. ft. upholstery area, as well as a new office for the business. The original building will remain an area for body work, engine work and other general mechanical work.
