EDUBS
Just like the mighty Inch Pincher, wonderous things start from a humble beginning......
Edubs.....to many people it is a mystery, but to those in the know it is a resource, a tool, a place to meet people with similar interests, a place to chat to friends new and old, BUT ultimately it is a place to talk about Volkswagens!
It began humbly, like many famous drag race cars began from the humble Beetle, a guy known as Stephen Moggan set up an email list to talk about his love of Volkswagen beetles.
As time progressed the word spread until eventually the email list "edubs" became alive, an entity in its own right. It grew and grew as people heard the gospel of edubs. Many subscribed to the digest version but felt left out of the thrust of conversations (myself included) but eventually they saw the light and turned their computers and email addresses over to the list in full. Then they realised their true calling in life, to spread the word of edubs and Volkswagens.
Soon the club began to take shape with many regular contributors (the disciples) Dale, Oliver, Damon, Steve (in his many forms), Paul (likewise in his many forms). Pearls of wisdom sprang forth from their lips such as what size socket you need for the steering wheel bolt, how to drink the drink of the Gods (Thatchers) and still be up at 8am to polish your car.
Many people came and went but the truth lived on. Now new disciples are emerging not just for the aircooled brethren but also for our beloved water pumper brothers and sisters (even if the engine is in the wrong end!)
Eventually a flesh meeting was arranged and after much heartache and worry the brethren gathered. The first official gathering was held in the depths of Worcestershire at the British Volkswagen Festival in Malvern, on the weekend of the 4th of July.
Many similar meetings occured throughout the year at various shows and the word of edubs strengthened.
If you feel you would like to drink from the well of knowledge then it is very easy, join the yahoo group edubs and give your life unto the world of Volkswagen.
