My 1997 Martin D-28

I had been trying to decide for years what type of high-end guitar I wanted to buy. I went to a couple music stores and tried out the Martin's they had in stock but nothing tripped my trigger. When Tim Stafford's (Union Station alumni) guitar book became available I jumped at the opportunity to buy it. One of the things that he discussed was equipment and his deep appreciation for his Martin D-28. I always thought that D-35's were the rage in bluegrass but Tim said that he got a more balanced and "micable" sound from the D-28. My faith in destiny was tested when I mail ordered the guitar from Veneman's music supply.

My 1995 Tony Rice Model Santa Cruz

Formerly owned by Ronnie Bowman of The Lonesome River Band bluegrass band and was used by him exclusively in concert and in the studio. Made of Indian Rosewood back and sides and Sitka spruce top, this guitar has been professionally set up by Wyatt Rice, brother of Tony. Wyatt has also worked on the scalloped bracing, and this guitar is exceptionally responsive and well balanced. Herringbone binding on the body, a plain ebony headstock, and the enlarged soundhole are the signature characteristics of the TR model (which is an exact copy of the vintage Martin D-28 played by TR). This instrument has the 1 3/4" low profile neck and is lightning fast. Tim Stafford also played a role in this guitar. I'm proud to own an instrument that Tony Rice used during some session work for Ronnie. This guitar rocks, only problem is it makes the Martin sound like a wimp!!!
