• The brand new "Oliver Boiler Repairs" Sawyer Massey boiler shell ready to begin fitting of engine and gearing. (There is no fire box or stays in yet.)

  • Water tanks are fitted & aligned,Brackets made & tack welded on. The rear wing sheet that carries rear axle shaft & gearing is about to go on.

  • The rear sheet is installed & lined up. A 1/4" spacer was rolled from boiler plate & fitted between boiler shell & old wing sheet. (codes dont allow old plate to be welded directly to new shell, therfore old wing sheet actually welds to spacer)The new fire box is actually 3/4" narrower than original due to the butt weld joining barrel & outside wrapper sheet of firebox.

  • A pair of dummy shafts were made to use in place of crank shaft & intermediate gear. (caps tightened up & lift hooks welded on. Once engine was in place & lined up spacers were also made and put under original brackets & tacked on. Then shafts were removed and gears set in to check alignment & mesh.

  • This picture shows all gearing in place and fitted correctly. The dome was also fitted at this time as its fairly close to valve gear on left side. You can also see the original engine mounting brackets with rivit heads cut from old boiler.

  • Another view of left side. (August 1998)

  • Labour Day weekend 1998 at "STEAM ERA" Milton Ontario. We just had to show something for all the work. All the brackets for canopy mounts, engine, gears & tanks are done.

  • Sept 1998. The poor OLD boiler & the new boiler. 8 months from delivery of shell in Feb 1998, Almost 2 years from start of project.

  • Back in shop Oct 98, jacket lagging is being made & fitted.

  • Left side view of near finished jacket before removal to paint.

  • The last thing to be built is new roof. Wood will be done later on.
