A Tribute to Dale Earnhardt

The Intimidator

1951-2001

On February 18,2001 we lost a great man and my hero. A 7 time winston cup champion and the man that undoubtedly made Nascar what it is today. Dale Earnhardt died in a crash on the last turn of the last lap of the Daytona 500. He was holding back the pack so that Michael Waltrip and his son Dale Jr. could finish 1-2 respectively. His car was bumped and he lost control, after being hit by another car he hit the wall head on at speeds of 180mph. The cars Dale Jr. and Michael Waltrip are driving are owned by Dale Earnhardt. It would have been a great day for DEI. But Waltrip's win was overshadowed by the loss of a legend.

Dale recieved Rookie of the Year in 1979 and won his first championship the following year, the only man to do that. After his 20th try, in 1998 Dale Earnhardt won the Daytona 500. Earnhardt also proved skillful in IROC championships winning them in 1990, 1995, 1999, and 2000. He is truly a great man and he will be missed. But at least he died doing what he loved, with the pedal to the metal. Now he's burnin' up that big circle track in the sky. RIP INTIMIDATOR.
