A little about my
"1961 Buick LeSabre"

It is a 4 door hardtop model 4439 and I'm the second owner. There were 37,790 4 door hardtop Buick LeSabres produced in 1961. I owned one in 1968, which my sister-in-law totaled and now this one at long last. This one was originally bought at Allred Buick Co. in Visalia, Ca. by an elderly lady who drove it around town and back and forth to work. The car had been serviced every 2,500 miles according to the service stickers. In 1984 it was stolen and then recovered. Since the insurance had settled the claim the car was dumped in the salvage yard. I bought it from Turners Auto Wrecking in April of 1997, after I discovered it looking for parts for my now "donor" car. A tow truck dumped it in the drive way and the fun and long hours of hard work began. Now everything is finally working and she runs and drives like a new car, with 56,000 miles on the engine it's still solid. I've had it repainted with the Tampico Red/Artic White, a new interior and I've just cleaned up the engine compartment and trunk. She's pretty well done.

A little about me

I had Polio in 1953 and have used a wheelchair and braces/crutches ever since. I attended Cripple Childrens Hospital & School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota until 1961, then Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles until 1964.
I had to leave work and go on SSDI because of Post Polio Syndrome in 1995, Experiencing severe and constant pain, extreme fatigue, increased muscle weakness etc. Unfortunately, the last few years since retirement hasn't slowed the effects of the Post Polio Syndrome that I started experiencing as early as 95. Currently, ten years later, I have to use a motorized wheelchair, I have to struggle to lift my hands/arms to my mouth, the pain/discomfort seem to be increasing, etc. In a nut shell it's getting worse. Well, time marches on and my PPS has continued to progress. Even with hand controls I've decided it isn't safe for me to continue driving, so I didn't renew my drivers license. Today, I had my son remove the hand controls. It's now to the point that I not only don't have the strength to work on it but I have driven her one final time. A little tough to deal with but...... what are you going to do? That's life.
I'll have to admit "I have my moments dealing with it all". BUT, whatcha gonna do???? Seems to be the only game in town. I've had my fun: I've had my legs strapped to the back of my brothers ZX-11 at 120 mph,(to keep them from "flappin' in wind). Flown a T-6 Trainer and pulled 3 G's while doing rolling loops. (I wasn't flying it then, just trying to keep my cookies down), Spent 2 nights on a 40 ft flag pole at the fraternity, which I don't remember getting there and needed help gettin' down.
I married in 1976 - have 4 children, BILLY, the oldest was shot and killed by a Bobby Kurry on September 5,1990, Kurry "Got away with a self defense plea". So much for justice. I have 7 grand children from 2 beautiful daughters and a son.
I have gone from wearing corporate blues with a red tie to Levi's and hair to my collar, when I wear a shirt. I drink "gettcha twichin coffee, Pepsi (missed winning the Mirage Jet Fighter with Pepsi points "by only 6,999,950 pts), smoke Basics and have a Queensland Healer dog, who is great company.
Graduated California State University Fresno in 1974 with a B.S. in Business Administration - Management/Marketing. I am a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity - Iota Gamma 473. Have spent 4 years as a purchasing agent, 2 years as a business forms salesman, 15 years as a sales supervisor and 4 years in accounting and alot of time watching the lawn grow.
Hobbies include:
1) Restoring my 1961 Buick LeSabre
2) Listening and collecting 1950 -1960's "Real" Rock 'N Roll
3) Collect Franklin Mint Eagles, posters, coffee cups, etc.
4) Philosophizing and listening to myself think (which I think I do well)
5) Target practicing, photography and fishing. (none of which I do very well)
6) Screwing up and then fixing my computer. (I've fixed it one more time than screwed it up)
7) Building model cars and aircraft
8) Just remember:
DESIDERATA

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others,
even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars,
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.
