TUNE-UP TIME

This page will be of help to anyone with problems with a lawnmower or other small engine problems you may have with your small engine equipment.This page will contain different trouble shooting tips and will be changed often so that we may cover most aspects,for more serious troubles see your local small engine repair shop.





Its spring again time for the good old tune-up



THIS IS MY TUNE-UP LIST

(1)Check the air breather and clean as required.

(2)Drain the oil.

(3)Clean fuel tank and all fuel lines check fuel lines for cracks and weathering.

(4)Remove the blower housing and check the rope for fraying and wear/check the rewind assembly/and the starter clutch make sure it is all moving freely.

(5)Clean the cooling fins of all debris.

(6)Check compression.

(7)Remove the carb disassemble and clean/inspect all needles/jets replace if need be and set to initial settings.

(8)Inspect the crossover tube/or intake elbow for bad gaskets.

(9)Check the governer blade and linkage for damage or wear as well as the spring If its a mechanical governer check the adjustment.

(10)Remove the flywheel and check the seal for leakage and the flywheel key for wear or damage (this is a must it will save you a headache down the road for what it costs change the key.)

(11)Remove the breaker pts cover and inspect them for wear/check the condenser/Replace or clean and check for proper adjustment/check out the plunger and replace if not within specs.

(12)Check the coil and all the wires for wear or breaks in the wire/and make sure they are not touching any part that will rub off the insulation.

(13)Put the breaker point cover back on and seal up the entrance where the wires go in with a sealant to keep dirt/ dust/and moisture out.

(14)Reinstall the flywheel and key and time the ignition if necessary/Set air gap to specs and check for spark.

(15)Remove the head check the gasket /Remove plug if you havent already/Clean off carbon/Inspect the valves for proper seating.

(16)Replace head use a new gasket torque to spec/Replace plug with a new one /Dont forget to gap the plug to specs as well.

(17)Replace oil and fuel.

(18)Adjust the remote control/linkage for correct operation.

(19)Run the engine and make the proper carb adjusments.

(20)Sharpen Blade if its a lawnmower.


It may be a little more than a simple tune-up But by doing this you will have this all summer long.


And more time to do the things you love to do in the summer.
