Next to the Vector W8, the McLaren F1 is my favorite car in the world. This car is an engineering masterpiece. I want one. I'll probably never be able to afford one, but I want one, anyway. Here is a car that was originally designed to be a street car, with a nice sound system, air-conditioning (good thing, examining the size of the opening portion of the windows), and everything else needed to provide a driver and two passengers with comfortable surroundings. It was designed as a driver's car, with the driver situated in the middle, like an F1 racer. The car was given cool aerodynamic and handling touches like the fans that suck air from under the car to help it stick to the road better, and the little spoiler that pops up for stability in turns and faster breaking. The prototype was clocked at 235 MPH, and it had a steel frame, while the production version has a lighter aluminum frame. The car is one of the safest vehicles on the planet. A test driver crashed one at 165 MPH and walked away. After the 35 MPH head on collision test, the car was probably still driveable, with the frame undamaged and the steering column having moved less than half an inch. Then they decided to take it to the races. They had to remove the active aerodynamic pieces and detune the engine. And in its first season, this car won race after race. In fact, it won at Le Mans the first time it was in that race. That isn't supposed to happen, but it did, and it's a testimony to just how awesome this car is.
