1998 Visa Sports Car Championship

I had a great time at the 1998 Visa Sports Car Championship, held at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California (well, okay, it's kind in the hills between Monterey and Seaside and Salinas, but that's basically Monterey). All of these pictures were taken at turn 5. I was trying to capture the glowing disks as the drivers braked. I was actually successful a couple of times. Well, practice makes perfect. Laguna Seca is an awesome track, with lots of turns, as well as altitude changes. In this race, there was a crash on the first lap after the pace car left the field. I was happy because I saw it! A Viper entered turn 4 too quickly, lost control, and spun out. That caused the single Saleen Mustang in the race to lose it and plow into the tire wall. Amazingly, the Mustang backed away from the tire wall and reentered the race with little to no damage. It finished the race! Of course, I'm pretty sure the Viper did, too, once the tow truck got it out of the sand it got stuck in. If you have never been to Laguna Seca before, visit their website. Click on the Videos link, and download the Quicktime video of one lap on the track.  It's quite impressive. Or, click here to go directly to the Laguna Seca Quicktime Movie page.
