Would you pay $5 for this Ford Fairlane Station Wagon?

I Did!

Yes. I bought it for $5. I found it sitting in the parking lot of a school here in Oregon with moss growing on it. It had been sitting there for a year. This is what it looked like when I found it.

I am the third owner. When I bought it, it had 133,000 original miles on it. It has original paint, original interior, and a 289 V-8 that has never been rebuilt. It even has a third-seat. The `66 Ford is also the first wagon to have a door-gate. In addtion, this is an 8-passenger wagon with a rear-facing third-seat. This is a very rare wagon.

When I bought it I drove it to my friend's house, put a little less than $600 into it, and put it back on the road. I have owned it since May 22, 1995 (my son's first birthday) and it has been my family's only car for most of that time.

In the spring of 1997 we drove it from Portland, OR to Provo, UT and back. We put new tires on it at that time. In the spring of 1998 I finally had to put a new carburetor on it. Between May and June I replaced every single piece of the cooling system. By the time I got done, it had a new water pump, thermostat, radiator, heater core, and hoses.

In August 1998 We drove it from Portland, OR to Napa, CA, to Beatty, NV to Riverside (Moreno Valley), CA. We came back through Beatty, NV and Sacramento, CA. The only problem we had was an exaust leak that became noticeable and a tailpipe that tried to fall off somewhere near Hawthorne, NV It still has a lifter that sticks, but it is reliable transportation.

One of these days I guess I'll have to open the engine up and do something about the lifter.

Here is a picture of my wagon hauling lumber. I'd like to see you do that in a two-door hardtop or a convertible.
