Chairman's Chatter
 by Richard Norem, Chairman

"You only get out of something as much as you put into it."  This is an old quote and I can't honestly say  I know its' origin, but there is a lot of truth to it!  How does it apply to our being members of RROC and our region, Southern Delta?  The most simplistic answer is, take care of our cars, upgrade them when we can, drive them, share them with others in many different ways and ATTEND AT LEAST ONE EVENT A YEAR, National or Regional.

For years I was unable to attend a National Meet because of professional and teaching commitments, but I finally retired from LSU and though I am still a member of The Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, the time was ripe to finally get to see what goes on at an Annual Meet.  Sally and I attended our first meet at Bellevue, Washington (just outside of Seattle) in August, 1995.  Rather then drive Claudia Cloud that distance, we flew out and had a great time.  It is a beautiful part of the country, we had a fine hotel, we met many wonderful new people (new friends) and of course, we saw many many magnificent Proper Motor Cars!  Club members from all over the world are really nice people and their enthusiasm for the cars and club is really infectious.  We had a great time at our first meet!!!

Sally and I did make a vacation out of the trip as we took the train up to Vancouver, British Columbia, then rented a car and drove the West Coast highway all the way down to Los Angeles.  What a trip!!

Our next Annual Meet was held at French Lick, Indiana, which is located in the picturesque southern Indiana Hills.  Again we had a great time meeting many new club members and seeing even more magnificent cars.  We were more isolated from a large city at French Lick,  but there were many things to see and do.  It was a good meet and again we extended it into a short vacation.

Unfortunately, we missed the Virginia Meet last year, but as the old saying goes, "The Good Lord willing" we will be going to Newport in July.

What is the point of all this rambling?  Well, I'm really enjoying and getting more out of my membership in RROC by participating in some national events as well as our Southern Delta events which I've always enjoyed.

I urge you to participate in Southern Delta's Region Events and try for a National Event that features the cars.  Remember the old Alka Seltzer advertisement, "Try it, you'll like it", well it's true !  Have fun with your motor car, attend as many events as you can, and I look forward to seeing you soon
