Problems I've experienced with my SS

I bought my SS new in March of 1997. It had its share of problems at the start, but it's been relatively problem free for some time now. Below is a table of the problems I've had with the car.

ProblemMileage Remedy
Grinding in first gear25 I drove the car off the lot with this problem. The second day I had it, I brought it back, and in went an entire new transmission.
Misfiring Cylinder25 Another problem the first night I had the car. A plug wire fell off of the #6 cylinder. Fixed that one myself, had the dealer clear the code.
Leaking Trans Fluid159 Trans cooler lines were re-installed incorrectly by dealer.
No Heat425Door assembly unhooked, stuck on cold.
Rattling ExhaustVarious The OEM exhaust was reinstalled a few times by the dealer for this problem. Finally, out of desperation, my father and I got under the car and fixed it ourselves…it was a heat shield that we bent out of the way.
Worn/Leaking Oil Lines11,259 The oil lines were rubbing on the steering box. This was a TSB fix, and new redesigned lines were installed that routed clear of the steering box. One line was leaking at a fitting, the other was almost worn clear through from contacting the steering box.
Clunking in front end17,378 The steering stops were greased, as per a TSB, and the front swaybar and bushings were replaced. The swaybar was cracked, and the bushings were shot.
MIL25,841The PCM threw codes P0335 and P0336, for Crank Sensor and Circuits. Diagnosed as loose connection and bad crank sensor. Sensor replaced. Also present was code P0400, EGR valve. Installed new EGR valve, revised for exhaust systems with less back pressure. Also re-flashed PCM due to surging present with the new EGR valve.
Noisy Heater Core27,460The dreaded waterfall noise. Flushed heater core and refilled lost DexCool with new DexCool. Bled air from valve on thermostst housing. Noise disappeared.
Noisy Heater Core - The Return29,042Heater Core replaced under warranty

I get very professional and courteous service from Preakness Chevrolet in Wayne, NJ…the dealer from whom I purchased the car.
