Flag Signals are used in Formula One Races by track
marshals to communicate
with the drivers once they are out on the track:
Yellow |
Danger - Drivers should slow down & be prepared to stop if necessary as it indicates an incident on the track ahead. Overtaking is forbidden until they pass a Green Flag. | |
Green |
All Clear - Gives the all clear after a yellow flag incident, resuming normal race conditions. | |
Yellow with Red Stripes |
Slippery Track - Marshall's advise of a slippery surface to the track. | |
Red |
Race Stopped - Shown at the start/finish line advises all drivers that they should stop racing immediately and return to the pits. | |
Black |
Race Stopped - Shown at marshall's positions around the track have the same meaning as the red flag. | |
Black with Car Number |
Race Over - The car indicated must return to his pits immediately, usually to be disqualified for some infringement of the regulations. | |
Black/White Diagonal with Car Number |
Unsporting Driving - Shown to a driver, only once, together with his number when his driving is considered to be unsporting. | |
Blue |
Overtaking Car Behind - Informs a back-marker car that he is about to be lapped, or it is shown to a slower car warning that the car behind is on a fast qualifying lap. | |
White |
Slow Car Ahead - Informs drivers that there is a slower car ahead of them. | |
Chequered |
Finish - Shown to drivers as they cross the finish line at the end of the race. |
