The latest new about the monte includes the addition of a trunk mounted Optima battery, fiberglass bumpers and a fiberglass cowl induction hood. I am currently starting on the body work i have most of the metal work done and have started sanding the old paint down to get it ready for its first shot of primer. The plan is to get all of the metal work squared away and then to give the entire car a coat of PPG dp90. From there I plan on using a little body filler where needed to smooth out the metal work and to get the body as close to straight as possible. Then i am planning on multiple coats of a high build primer to bring everything superstraight after block sanding my arms off. I then plan on getting the car up on the road and driving it till about mid spring when i will hopefully get the paint sprayed on it. The current plan for color is a dark metalic silver with flat black racing stripes over the top of the whole car. I also am getting rid of all of the body trim as possible. And any that is left is going to be painted the same color as the body. I will try to keep picture updates on how things are coming along. Another note is that i just started college at the University of Cincinnati september 20th so i won't have much time to work on it anymore. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
History and info | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
I Was given this car from my grandfather who bought it new in 1969. It curently has 143,000 miles on it. He left it sitting in a gravel driveway for the last six years and which is bad for them here in Ohio. I just finished putting an all new trunk in it. I used a chevelle pan that came from NPD(I wouldn't recomend NPD). I completely rebuilt the front suspension with all new bushings and ball joints. I lowered the frame below the car and installed all new polyurethane body bushings. I replaced all the shocks with new gas shocks. I am replacing both of the front fenders with 71-72 fenders because they are all I could find. To use these fenders you have to modify them a little bit because they bolt to the headlight pieces differently. I purchased one of the fenders at a swap meet for $350 used. The other I purchased from a local bone yard for $20 however I had to order a patch panel from OPG for $50. Latest additions to the car include the rebuilding of the engine, trunk mounting an Optima battery, removing the airconditioning suitcase off the firewall and makeing a blower motor box, and a four inch fiberglass cowl induction hood and fiberglass bumpers from VFN fiberglass. Other modifications in the future include some suspension upgrades, a 3.55 posi to go into the gm 12-bolt, and maybe a 700R4 tranny. |
