I try to check these links monthly. But, if any are dead, redirected to someplace else, or generally don't take you where they say they will, please drop me a brief email and let me know.

I'd appreciate it to save further embarrassment ...wouldn't you?

Credible Sources for News and Information

InCredible Sources for News and Information

Karting Links
How does a site qualify for this section? Not by whether they sell karting products, but rather if they provide information (technical and otherwise) of benefit to karters, particularly enduro racers. All of these links take you to other source sites. If there is a bad link, PLEASE let me know.

Big South Road Racing Series Homepage
This is the epicenter for enduro racing in the southeastern United States. Home to the Big South Road Racing Series (a WKA regional enduro series), and the Savannah Road Racing Series, this site contains current series and national enduro point standings, schedules, links, photos, and message boards. Come and visit. Come and race with us!!

RLV Exhaust Products Technical Documents Index housed on Pete Muller's site..

Pete Muller's Document Index
This is the document archive of Pete Muller's comprehensive web site for karting. Currently containing 31 technical papers, this site should be bookmarked by every karter!

Steve Smith Autosports
His online bookstore. Do take the time to visit and check out the titles. You'll probably buy something...like I did.

Jon Galownia's Homepage
This is Jon Galownia's page discussing his approach to setting up the Invader chassis for sprint racing. Although you might not be running this venue, some of the information is definitely transferable. Besides, accumulating information can only help your own decision making.

Kartracer.com
This is an excellent site providing a clearing house for karting news, photos, schedules, and information nationwide.

Woodridge Kart Club
The homepage for one the larger enduro clubs in the east. A lot of the tech information posted around the web originated here at one time.

Fox Valley Kart Shop
This is the Fox Valley Kart Shop's site on the web. Holds several good articles originally published by John Copeland in National Kart News...31 and counting. Most are enduro specific. How refreshing.

Chuck Bunnell's Homepage
This is Chuck Bunnell's Rebel Racing homepage...an intelligent and engaging site. A ton of links well researched and organized. In addition, a trip to the software download page is recommended. These are very user-friendly and functional programs designed to run on just about any Pentium-free, one-lung, DOS based system.

Brendel Racing
Juergen Brendel's homepage. What makes this unique and worthy of inclusion is his comprehensive Internet Karting Glossary, from Ackerman to Yamaha (and still growing). Some other interesting information also available.

Margay Racing
This site is just coming online. It is supposed to be fully running in early October 1999. I don't know what it is going to contain, but I run their chassis, so here is a link to their page! Can you say 'sponsor me'?

Horstman Clutches
This site has improved immensely since it first appeared. You can get clutch product info, new product info, and, most importantly, owner's manuals for all their clutches. This is a great benefit if you acquired a used clutch!

Coleman Products
Same as the Horstman Clutch site, here you can get product info and owner's manuals for some of their major products.

TS Racing
Long known for their fine shop work, they have a site that now houses some good documents and information for karters. Good enduro stuff.

ATV Stuff
I don't usually post a product, but Charlie Fox sent this one to me and it is a gem. A high quality custom cover for a laydown enduro...at a reasonable price.

Online Karting Publications

The Inside Track
America's Karting Newspaper (if you believe their banner).

National Kart News
America's Leading Karting Magazine Since 1986 (that's what they say, anyway).

Karting Organizations in the U.S.

World Karting Association
East of the Mississippi, more or less.

International Kart Federation
West of the Mississippi, more or less

Political Links
Okay, so I admit most (all) the links you are going to get here are on the Left...so sue me.

Electronic Civil Disobedience
A site devoted to the theory and practice of electronic civil disobedience and non-violent, non-destructive political action through the net. This is the cyber version of the sit-ins of the 60's and 70's. Very political, very active, and very effective. Get involved! *Update* This site was taken down from its original format, but the archives still exist and the title has changed to The Electronic Disturbance Theatre. Still worth the trip.

Democratic Socialists of America
Here is their Organizational Statement from the home page:

"The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is the largest socialist organization in the United States,
and the principal U.S. affiliate of the Socialist International (also in Francais and Espanol). DSA's
members are building progressive movements for social change while establishing an openly socialist
presence in American communities and politics.

At the root of our socialism is a profound commitment to democracy, as means and end. We are
activists committed not only to extending political democracy but to demanding democratic
empowerment in the economy, in gender relations, and in culture. Democracy is not simply one of our
political values but our means of restructuring society. Our vision is of a society in which people have
a real voice in the choices and relationships that affect the entirety of our lives. We call this vision
democratic socialism - a vision of a more free, democratic and humane society."

Social Democrats, USA
And here is their chief rival in the U.S.:

"Social Democrats, USA is the movement of Eugene V Debs, Norman Thomas, A. Philip Randolph, Bayard Rustin and countless
others who have worked and continue to work tirelessly to extend the benefits of freedom and economic justice to all Americans and
to people the world over.

But while our central core puts us firmly in the American tradition of egalitarianism and democracy, it also distinguishes us from
many in the political world. We are not conservatives, who say that there have always been and will always be the weak and the
strong, and that the role of civilized people is to vitiate only the most vicious aspects of that reality. Nor are we liberals, who say that
the role of civilized people is to protect the weak from the strong. That chivalric impulse ultimately weakens those protected, making
them dependent on the good will of the powerful -- a good will that cannot be depended upon. Instead we see our role as helping to
create institutions that make the powerless strong -- not so that they can in turn bully and intimidate, but so that they can act as
equals in negotiating and bargaining with the strong."

The Center for Democracy and Technology
"The Center For Democracy and Technology is a non-profit public interest organization based in Washington, DC. CDT works to develop and advocate public policies that advance constitutional civil liberties and democratic values in new computer and communications technologies."

People for the American Way Foundation
Who has the guts to go head-to-head with Operation Rescue, Falwell, Robertson, and the rest of the religio-politico hypocrites? You guessed it.

"People For the American Way Foundation is committed to building a new progressive movement in America. If you're ready to stand up to the Religious Right's political agenda of division and fear mongering, and if you are willing to stand up for fundamental American values like opportunity, equal justice under the law, and individual liberty, then we want you to join us. Founded in 1980 to monitor and counter the divisive agenda of the Religious Right political movement, the People For the American Way Foundation is working to build a movement grounded in values that define what is best about our country."

Turn Left...the home of Liberalism on the web
If you like your leftist politics a bit more traditional, but with an extremely sharp edge, you should explore this site. This is the clearing house for all liberal e-sites on the web. Updated daily.

The New Party
An interesting group of people. These folks position themselves as a new third party and intend to hasten the democratic revolution of returning power to the people. Not to be confused with the militant right-wing idiots who want to control the people under the guise of reducing big government. Here is what The New Party has to say about itself.

"Our commitment to democracy comes from our recognition of the moral equality of persons. People really are created equal, and heir free deliberation is the best hope for achieving the blessings of liberty. The same recognition fuels our commitment to fairness in social life -- not letting such moral irrelevancies as race, gender, age, sexual orientation, country of origin, or inheritance determine one's life chances. A commitment to democracy, finally, implies commitment to building the popular democratic organizations -- clean, effective, and accountable government, democratic unions and community organizations -- necessary to any democratic society."

Digital Images from the American Radicalism Collection
Housed at Michigan State University, this site has a wonderful collection of original documents central to the radical political experience in this country. Documents are from both the Right and the Left -- Klanswomen of America (and their pathetic, hate-filled drool) to the Students for a Democratic Society!  Go here, it is well worth the trip. (Like clicking on a hyperlink is such a big deal)

GWBush.com
This is the site that W tried to have removed from the internet..."There should be a lmit to free speech" (he really said that!). Want to have some fun with this year's elections? Start here and follow the links to other parody sites. This guy has a wicked sense of humor. My guess is that he's not voting for anybody!

Cultural Studies Links

Cultural Studies Central
This is an interesting interactive site focusing on popular culture. "Cultural Studies Central is a gathering spot and central clearinghouse where those of us who live and breathe Cultural Studies can go to learn more and do more." Fortunately the site isn't as pretentious as that text.

Sarah Zuplo's Cultural Studies Center
A comprehensive guide to cultural studies and popular culture on the internet.

Douglas Kellner's Cultural Studies and Media Culture
This is Kellner's (a leading contemporary theorist) online syllabus for his undergraduate course at UCLA. The resources and materials are outstanding. This site contains a number of excellent articles and essays by writers such as Kellner, Stuart Hall, bell hooks, Henry Giroux, Carmen Luke, and Allan Luke. Good links, too.

Cultural Studies Resources
This is an annotated links page posted through the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Iowa. Limited but al the sites are of excellent quality. Not like my links!

Yahoo-Semiotics
Links to Semiotic sites on the net.

Cultural Frictions
Now this is a fascinating site, if you have the time to browse. This is a collection of papers presented at the 1995 interactive conference on Medieval Cultural Studies in Postmodern Contexts.

Representations
An online quarterly journal in the humanities and interpretive social sciences published by the University of California Press.

Cultronix
Here is their header, they say it better than I can paraphrase: "Cultronix is an interdisciplinary journal of art and cultural studies, addressing critical issues in contemporary institutions and practices. It publishes contributions spanning a wide range of media, and encourages contributors to use new media in order to expand critical and theoretical work to Internet reading audiences."

Can U.S. Media Literacy Movement Open Door To More Points Of View?
Here's a really good piece from Wally Bowen, executive director for the Citizens for Media Literacy. A must read.

History of U.S. Education Links

The History of American Education Web Project
This is the compilation of an undergraduate class project. Take it with a grain of salt (or whatever). The following disclaimer is from the instructor.

"This History of American Education Web Project was originally undertaken as a class assignment by members of an
undergraduate Foundations of Education class. It should be noted that, during editing, the instructor did not change the content of the reports. Many of the sources which the students used contained a rather triumphalist view of American Educational History and the students' reports tended to reflect that view. The instructor would have liked to add some balance to these triumphalist views, but for a number of reasons he did not."

American Education: Historical Perspectives on Modern Issues
Here's another site complied by undergraduates. This one, from Colby College, is (in my opinion) the superior of the two.

Labor Relations in Education in the United States
An unpublished paper by F. Howard Nelson.

Policy Analysis #155
An excellent article by Jack D. Douglas titled "Only Freedom of Education Can Solve America's Bureaucratic Crisis of Education."

Education Policy Analysis Archives 12:5
An interesting piece about rural schools and reform by an old Marxist scholar I know up in Charleston WV. This is an e-journal so there are several hyperlinks within the piece and in the references. Good stuff.

School-Based Management
An article by Kathleen Cotton on (see above).

The Historian Underground
Discovered by one of our doctoral students, Will Schmidt, this is an interesting site one. Here is their description.

"This site is designed to give voice to views about the object of history that challenge the normal aims of the historians' craft. It is based on the presupposition that normal academic historical method has lost touch with the power of history for peoples lives. We, therefore, are attempting to gather some articles to challenge the more traditional presuppositions and stir up a bit of controversy if we can. These pages go deep into an examination of the relation of history, philosophy and even a little literature as well as evaluating education and its role."

Curriculum Theories and Design

Self-Directed Learning, Political Clarity and the Critical Practice of Adult Education
A good article by Stephen Brookfield published in Adult Education Quarterly.

What's a good review look like? Go here and find out. This one is by Pat Clifford of the Banded Peak School in Bragg Creek, Alberta.

Thomas B. Fordham Foundation: Education Excellence Network
Want to read some neo-conservative drool about how to "save" public education in this country? Go here. You'll normally find such "luminaries" as Chester Finn and Diane Ravitch. I couldn't decide whether to post this link here, or under overt politics. You decide.

Kentucky State Department of Education
The state system used to be a joke. Now everyone is studying and emulating. Go here and find out how radical reform can work.

Sociology / Sociology of Education Links

Sociology Ring
This is a Webring for sociology sites including individual homepages, education sites, and journals. Some great...some not so great.

Electronic Journal of Sociology
Very hip E-journal. All articles are full text html and available for FREE.

SocioWorld Sociology Resources on the Internet
Comprehensive site. Well produced. Visually interesting. part of the Sociology Ring (see above). Also houses a chat room for sociology students.

E-Journals at SocioWorld
While technically a part of the site listed above, I decided to give it a separate listing because of the comprehensive nature of the information. Instead of just listing the e-journals with links, the writer has taken the time to visit the sites and make some commentary on each one...kind of like what you are reading now. I, personally, appreciate the effort.

The American Studies Web Research and Reference Page
Good starting place for further exploration. No telling what you'll get, sometimes.

Sociology Resources
I had to post this one. Any site that begins with the Dead Sociologists' Society has got my vote!

Cyberpunk and Cybersociology Links

CyberSoc.Com
This is one of my new faves, simply because I am being drawn more into the study of cybersociology and cyborg identity. This is the only site listed, so far, but it is an excellent starting point so I don't feel too bad.

Foucault Links
If some of these links don't work, just remember the postmodern era (whatever that is) is so fluid...

Credible Sources for News and Information
Mainstream news sources, but the ones I believe have at least some shred of integrity still intact. Don't look for infotainment here.

The New York Times on the Web

Cable News Network Interactive
Need a quick fix? Go here.

The Weather Channel

Mundus vult decipi (the world wants to be deceived)"

Pricewatch.Com(TM)

InCredible Sources for News and Information
This section will grow as I have some time to seek out some of the more interesting (and odd) marginal sites on the web.

Disinformation
You gotta' see this site. It's like The New Republic meets the X-Files.

Bolt Reporter
Here is the online high school newspaper.  The cool thing here is that they publish all the articles which have been banned at local schools. Hey, read this for a while and you'll know the kids are alright.  Many of them, anyway.

Mark Hardin's Artchive
How about nearly every piece of art on the planet presented in digital glory. A hell of a site. I was disappointed to find out there were no velvet Elvis', however.

EFF Netculture - Cyberpunk Archive
Get wacked.
