These pictures, along with the text was given to me by a guy who e-mailed me looking to find his old MK1 Sprite that he used to race in the 1960's. Since then we have kept in touch.

This is a small part of his life in the 1960's.

WLU 935 began it's racing career in late 1960 at Brands Hatch racing circuit. Then in 1961 it raced in BRSCC club events, GT cars up to 1150cc and events with Sevenoaks and District Car Club, Club Lotus, MG Car Club and 750 Motor Club. The engine was modified by Downton Engineering, gearbox by John Sprinzel and the suspension modifications were done by Speedwell. Racing continued in 1962 with more engine mods, special crank and rods/pistons, alloy flywheel, alloy pushrods, roller rockers and it was also bored out to 998cc

The cars bodywork also had some minor modifications i.e. bonnet and doors which were made of alloy, but were the same shape as the original panels so the car still kept its standard shape. Racing ceased at the end of 1963. The car was still used after that and used only as a tow car but fitted with a 1650cc Ford engine and gearbox, the Sprite engine being fitted to a Formula Junior car. The car was then sold in 1965.

Martin then started to look for the car during 1998 on the internet. luckily in May 1999 he found the car still alive and well in Hatfield England, and has been re-sprayed back to it's original colour of red, plus it has been fitted with new trim and seats. The whole car is still very original and complete, having seems to have spent some of it's life racing.
