The Restoration Progress Week 1

8/3/97 Sunday

Took out all the carpet and seats. Discovered more rust on the pan than I expected to find. In the back passenger seat behind the driver it was all the way through in some areas. These were very small rust holes no larger than a dime in some places. Looks like I am going to be replacing somes pans also! The rest of the inside looks good. My beetle has never been repainted before. I am going to take out the headliner, door panels and other parts this weekend to get it ready for the Paint and Body Shop.

Finally have all the seats and carpet completely out. Rust visible everywhere. These pans will need to be cut out and replaced with new ones.

8/9/97 Saturday

Today with the help of my friend Mark, I took off the front door panels and the head liner. Also took off all the dash knobs. The interior walls are in great shape! I am considering just having Estate Paint and Body paint just the visible parts in the car since this will save some money and I will not have to remove the insulation from the inside. The interior panels (roof, door panels, ect.) are in great condition. No evidence of filler anywhere that might indicate past accidents or damage.

Here is a picture of Mark at work on the Beetle.
