The Restoration Progress Week 2
8/10/97 Sunday Continued cleaning the pans with metal brush and 3/8 drill with steel brush. The pan is in better shape than I thought. Most of the rust was surface rust and not clean through. Small holes in the back passenger seat where I found them originally but not anywhere else. The passenger side pan will not have to be replaced and the rear driver side pan might be saved also with some handy welding. Running boards were also removed today and there was no rust on the wings (fenders) or on the body where running boards had contact. Excellent! I still have about a weekends worth of work on the beetle before it goes into the paint and body shop. 8/11/97 Monday Finished cleaning the pans today. Also removed all body moldings, including my prized VW1300 emblem. All interior trim (what little there is) was removed today. I plan on taking the beetle in to the shop on Wednesday afternoon for the paint and body work. A Look under
the Hood of the Beetle. This mess of wires will need to be rewired, the gas tank restored
and repainted. and new trunk carpet along with a wire cover installed. 8/12/97 Tuesday Circled all the dents and dings I could locate with a magic marker for Estate Paint and Body to fix. Also put driver seat and battery back in so I can drive it over to them Wednesday. 8/13/97 Wednesday The Beetle went into the shop today for body and paint work. The body shop is going to replace all four wings (fenders) in addition to the bonnet, repair the floor pans, replace the running boards, replace all body seals and weather strips, and get out every little ding and repaint the beetle pearl white inside and out. Also they are going to repaint the wheels and gas tank for me. Home |
