Sipani Automobiles manufactured the Dolphin in Bangalore. It was the clone of Reliant Kitten of Britain. The automobile had one great advantage mainly its power to weight ratio. This was principally due to its body shell which was made of fiberglass. The 848cc Reliant engine was a superlative unit imparting superb driveability for effortless city performance and it churned out adequate power to surge the automobile forward in stop-go situations. Sipani being a small player could not manufacture the car in huge numbers, the manufacturing process was labour intensive which also contributed to this problem. However, a lot of these little jets were sold in the south of the country especially Bangalore. Sipani also manufactured the Montana (4 door version of Dolphin) and later the Montana D1 (pic above) versions with the Shakti-Mitsubishi mini tractor diesel engine manufactured by VST tillers, the cars sold in small numbers before the company wound up. Sipani Auto also sold the Rover Montego for a while which was imported in Complete Knocked Down Kit (CKD) form.
