67 Barracuda

It is a creme colored, gold and brown interiored fastback. This car was originaly a low option 273 2bbl, automatic. In the four years I have had it, I have swapped in a 318, Kelsey Hayes 4 piston disk brakes, 3.23 geared 8 3/4 (open), rebuilt the front suspension using poly-graphite bushings, and added a 1 1/8" swaybar up front. Best 1/4 mile to date, 15.73 @ 84 mph. All with a 2 bbl, and single exhaust! A month or so ago, the 318 took a dump, so now I am in the process of swapping in a 340/4 speed, and going to a same gear posi. I am looking for LOW 14's, possibly tasting 13's. I am trying to keep this car VERY streetable, as it is my daily driver. I will update as things progress.

UPDATE..5/1/98..Yesterday, I started driving my car again after about 9 months of driving my '72 F250. Boy does it feel GOOD!! The job is still not complete, I am not terribly happy with the clutch linkage, or my choice of shifter handles. I also need to finish the shifter tunnel, and buy a new carpet for it. The new engine and the four speed trans work great. The clutch I had went to a bell housing that fits an O/D four speed, so the car is equipped with an O/D trans instead of a straight four speed. With 3.23 gears, this set-up works great on the freeway. I will be adding new pictures soon, and an outline of the engine build-up.

UPDATE..9/2/98..Since May, I have just about put the car back to the condition it was in before the swap. The interior is back in with a new brown carpet, and I installed a '68 vintage Hurst shifter handle on my new Hurst shifter. In June, I got pretty tired of the clutch linkage, so I installed the correct bell housing and standard 4 speed trans with a new clutch. I miss the O/D on the freeway, but it sure has alot more getup and go. Two weeks ago I finally took her to the track. The best time I could muster was a 14.83 @ 96 MPH. The E.T. is bad because I still haven't put in my posi, and I was running my slippery street tires( 60 ft times were 2.50 sec.) With the posi installed and sticky tires, I am confident that it will run 14.0s or teens at closer to 100 MPH. I am driving the car everyday, and I am getting about 14-15 MPG around town. So far I am very happy with the results, A daily driver that is capable of low 14s, gets about 15 MPG, and is reliable as can be ( I get lots of compliments too).
