The early TO MID 80s

The Debut of KYLE and Celebration of Win 200

The 70s The 90s Kyle's Charity Ride Misc Pics Home

This picture was taken in turn 1 at the 1980 Busch 420 at Nashville Speedway. While I was disappointed when the King switched from Dodge to Chevy, the 76 Monte Carlo never looked better than when dressed in the STP colors.

Another personal favorite of mine - the twin Buick Regals from 1981. The Buick was pretty kind to Richard as he won the Daytona 500 for the 7th and final time. He was also victorious at Michigan.

Kyle's performance was...well...but doesn't his car look sharp!

Can't claim photo rights on this one. I got it from a calendar.

In 1982, Kyle picked up UNO as an associate sponsor. He also ran some superspeedway races in the Hoss Ellington STP/UNO #1 Buick.

This picture was taken in May 1983 before qualifying for the Marty Robbins 420 at Nashville Speedway. In those days, 10 bucks would get you in the "garage" area (Nashville never really had anything remotely close to a true garage.) where you could spend as much time as you'd like roaming around for autographs.

One of my prized autographs from that evening (other than the King and Kyle)? The late Tim Richmond - God rest his soul...

Look closely & you'll see Kyle sitting under the STP umbrella. He's wearing his 7-Eleven uniform.

<----Another pic from the King holding court.

Another one of my favorites. This is one of the pictures I've got with the King without his shades at the track - and I took it! -------------------->

Ready for qualifying at the 1985 Daytona 500.
