I'm obviously not a professional photographer, but this is one of my personal favorites shots I've taken. The crew is pushing the King's Pontiac to the starting line for Richard's final race at Charlotte in 1992. Alongside the 43 is the car driven by the eventual Winston Cup champion for 1992 - Alan Kulwicki.

Here's the closest I've been to the pre-race action since my early days in Nashville. And I haven't been in the garage area since. Here's Kyle's Mello Yello Pontiac at Atlanta in 1992.

Here's Kyle pulling into the garage after a few laps during Happy Hour during preparations for the 1992 fall Charlotte race. Kyle's best years were 92 and 93 when he finished 5th in points each year.

Richard retired in 1992 and for some ludicrous reason hired Rick Wilson as his heir apparent. For one season, the 43 was shelved in favor of 44. In the off season, both the 44 and Wilson were canned. The only unique thing about this year's car was the fact it displayed a Busch Beer sticker. Richard made a promise to his mother not to have a beer sticker on his car. Apparently the promise didn't extend to a 44 car driven by another driver...
