Car Stuff
If anyone thinks they have summed me up already and have thought
"Boy Racer" then you can think again. (But in saying that I ask 'Define BoyRacer') I have always enjoyed good motoring having been raised in a Hot Rodding family. If you have a car it should be maintained to the best of your ability for a number of reasons. Safety is the highest priority on the roads. By complying your vehicle to over and above WOF standards you decrease the odds of having your car fail on you when you need it most.
Good driving skills are far more impressive than dickhead maneouveurs. I emplore all you drivers out there to observe good following distance in traffic, be mindful of indication, and remember to laugh when you are on the roads. Sometimes things can get a bit tense, & it's times like that you just want to nail it. Think of the fuel you'd waste, the ticket you might get, or the backed up traffic you'll hit as you rip around that tight corner.

Good motoring is a lifestyle and a discipline,
Good Motoring is using your skills to the best of your ability,
It is an art form, a dance, a science and it requires respect,
anyone can own a car, most people who own cars can drive them,
but this alone is not good motoring...

My Car
The Nissan Skyline comes in a range of models to suit it's owner. The range starts from the automatic non-turbo 2-litre rear wheel drive variants, and leads all the way up to the 2.6litre, twin turbo, four wheel drive, four wheel steer, manual, ABS and HICAS loaded GTRs. These are the pinnacle of the Skyline range. The GTS4 is the top end of the general production model, and its design is based heavily on the GTR. It has been dubbed the baby Godzilla, and features very similar specifications with a 2 litre engine and a single turbo. Most have Four wheel drive, four wheel steer, ABS, HICAS, Active spoiler (all on demand) and much more...

My first Skyline purchase was in November of 1997. It is pictured on the left, this photo was taken the day we traded it in at Greenwell Motor Company in Mt Wellington. Gary & the team have a really large selection of Skylines at the Sylvia Park Business Centre. They are at 286 Mt Wellington Hwy, just off the Motorway in Auckland. You can contact them on 09 5731177.
This car is a 1992 R32 GTS, with an automatic gearbox. It was a four door vehicle which suited us at the time.We found the GTS to offer great value for money in terms of fuel ecomony & the general consumables that you can expect to have to replace. A major bonus with the colour was that it always looked clean!!!
To be honest the only thing that we ever replaced in this car was an indicator light & a park light. That's less than $10 spent on repairs in three years. I reckon that's good going considering we did 60,000 Km's in this car. In the time we had it we improved the breathing with a K&N airfilter and a non-cat exhaust. It was lowered with King Springs, and had tinted windows, airhorns, alarm, mags and more.
All in all, Nissan Skylines have appeared to be very reliable, I believe that where you take your car for its regular maintainence makes a difference though. If you are in Hamilton I recommend "Tuning & Performance" on King St. If you are in the Wellington area I recommend MIDAS Porirua, check them out online at www.thegarage.co.nz, they can do anything.
On the left our new GTS4 is pictured. It was in mint condition when we got it on the day, but as with all used vehicle purchases, it required a bit of a make over. This whole area is updated as I go, so check in regularly.
