This page is about the car I own, a white 1987 Toyota Corolla FX-16 (AE82), built with the famed 4A-GE engine.
It is a 1.6L 16 valve DOHC 4 cylinder engine. My engine is equiped with the T-VIS system.
"What TVIS actually is (Toyota Variable Induction System, or something that sounds like that) is a set
of butterflies (small throttle plates if you will) located between the
head and the throttle runners of the intake manifold. This is what you
see if you were air entering the 4AGE's intake tube:
1. Air travel into the intake tube
2. Air travel into the metal intake manifold
3. Air then splits up and chooses one of four intake runners to travel
along
4. Each intake runner then gets split up into 2, thus giving you a
total of 8 smaller intake runners. Half are long intake runners, the
other half short. Each intake runner ends at a set of small throttle
plates, called "butterflies." This is the TVIS system. So if each
cylinder has two small intake runners going into it, then it must have
two butterflies each, for a total of 8 butterflies.
5. At low RPMS, the TVIS unit only allows air from the long intake
runners to get by, thus generating more "standing" air and more torque.
6. Over 4,000 or 4,500 (can't remember) the other butterfly opens up,
and allows air from both the long and short intake runner to pass
through, thus max. air.

*March 18, 2002. I graduate college in May, so after that i shoud have all the time i need to put up the tech sections i wanted to do for so long. I will leave this section of the site up for references. The FX-16 is gone. Maybe
one day i will have another one.
*September 19,2001. Sorry to announce the Toy is dead. That is unless i feel like spending the money to replace the Tranny and the body panels that were damaged in the accident and vandalized by an Ex. More than likely I will be getting rid of the car. See what kind of $$$ a salvage yard will give, or selling it as is or for parts over the net.
*January 29, 2001. I almost forgot that i had a website. Just trying to finish up school. The FX-16 is running great. Started to burn oil, but a little Stop Smoke took care of that problem, and help gain some of the fun back in the Toy. Not much else. The car is just going to be my pizza delivery car once i get the CRX fixed.
*November 14, 2000. As you can tell i have had absolutly no time to give this sit the upgrade. I have yet to develope the new pictures or do the lens covers. Please bear with me. During the holidays i will have some free time. Got the car running good. Still need to change out the front struts, changed the cap and rotor and it helped it run a bit better, even in the mornings. The Hesitation in the mornings is nowhere as bad. Got a new pic up. it is one i took for my photography class. It ended up on the cutting room floor, and being one of the photos i chose for my project.
*October 08, 2000. Ok...I will be putting a "how-to" on the corner and rear turn signals, expect that within two weeks. Also a how to on making the front corners the flashers instead of the bumper lights (if i get enough requests). Been having to spend a lot of time keeping it running...Starter last week now the water pump, need to replace the front struts...Been doing some research on why it hesitates when the engine is cold...i have some limited knowlege. If you know for sure or have any ideas e-mail me. Also, something to call a links page is up.
*June 10, 2000. It has been a long delay, but i have sorted everyting out with insurance. They paid out on the car, and for $450.00 less i got to keep it, too. They ended up giving me $2,130.00. I had to take out the stereo (because they will only cover liability since they paid out) and am now trying to sell it. Basically the FX-16 looks stock except for the winshield strip. I bought a 91 Honda CRX. So now i have two cars. I am going to fix the Corolla's damage my self and have started doing it. A lot toughr than i thought. will have some pics of the damage when i get a chance to go to the college and use the scanner.
*May 6, 2000. I put the guestbook up. So please fill it out and give me some feed back about my page and you can leave questions there too.
*May 1, 2000. I now have my title graphic. School is finished for the year. SUMMER is HERE.
*April 30, 2000. I am going to keep the car. Just going to have to remove the stereo. Got all of my pictures online (about time too). Not much else has been going on. Just finishing school.
*March 30, 2000. Sad day. Seems like soon i might end up loosing the car. I got in an accident and the car is probaly going to be deemed a total loss. There is nothing wrong with the car except some body damage near the gas tank. I want to hang on to it, but SC has such strict laws on cars that have been in accidents (but yet they have no emissions or safety inspections, makes sense), that it might not be worth keeping. I will have pictures up after this weekend (Maybe). Not much time after fighting with insurance.
*Did some research and found the best size tires should be no larger than 195/45 16. Get a set with a 35-40mm offset and you will be good to go. 35mm offset is ideal. With this size scrubbing the shock and the wheel well should be eliminated.
