November Rendezvous
At the November rendezvous we had 20 enthusiasts with a Healey 3000 and an Alfa Romeo GTV 6 in the car park. We discussed the loss of friend Roger Medlin who passed as the result of a heart attack he suffered as he and his wife Dot were traveling to New Jersey. The American Airlines crash in queens happened the day before which reminded us of our September 11th rendezvous. Bill Diamond gave a brief talk on theGrand American road Racing Series which includes a 250 mile 3 hour race at VIR on June 29th and a 600 mile 6 hour race on Aug 29th at VIR. We congratulated Rodney Trask on his and his brothers 3rd place podium finish at the VIR endurance race two weeks ago. Rodney drives a Mini with a British Union Jack on the roof to the Rendezvous.
John Hauser gave a report on the Euro 2001 in Greenville which had 400 cars including 40 E TypeJaguars. 15000 dollars were donated to the Red Cross and 2ooo dollars came from the Porsche Club of America. Congratulations go out to the BMW folks and the Foothils British Car Club which founded and host the event. Congratulations also go out to the Piedmont British motor Club which hosted a succesfull British Car and wooden boat show at Lake Norman this September in the shadow of the September 11th tragedy.

Jon Saylor gave a report on the Moonshine Run Rally in April to start in Elkin on Saturday the 13th of April 2002. For more information call 336 788 7291.

The Corsa Rossa Annual European Car Festival

On October 13th Corsa Rossa held its annual European Car Festival at Reynolda in Winston-Salem, NC. The festival began in 1996 as an Italian festival in honor of the Italian Olympic team training in Winston-Salem. Since then the festival has shifted its focus to all European marques.

Alfas at the show

This year there were fourteen Alfa Romeos in attendance. The number was substabtially down from 26 Alfas in 2000, when the Mid Atlantic Alfa Romeo Club held its Annual Extravaganza in conjunction with the festival.

Alfa Romeo Class winner was Brian Dillon's 1969 1300 GT Jr. Skip Patnode clinched the award for most miles travelled, having driven all the way from Norfolk, VA in his Duetto.

Among other Alfa Romeos in attendance were MAARC President Steve Margolis' GTV 6, David Bishop's Milano, Thor Mirchandani's Giulia SS, four Spyders and five 164s.

The Stratford Brass Quartet played in front of Reynolda House in honor of former MAARC President and Alfisti extraordinaire Roger Medlin, who recently passed away.

Ferraris at the show

This year there were seventeen Ferraris in attendance. Ferrari Club of America South East Chapter co-presidents Bill and Wendy Djang drove their F-40 all the way from Raleigh, NC. From Asheville Alan Wilson and Ned Gallager brought a 1966 330 GT race prepared and on the way to the Carrera Panamericana revival. Sport Leicht Restortations' Bjorn Nordemi brought a freshly restored 1966 330 GT 2+2, which ended up winning the Ferrari class. Local Ferrari celebrity Steve Barney of Sport Auto, Summerfield, NC displayed a 512 TR. From Foreign Cars Italia's showroom came a fly yellow 2001 360 Modena.

Other Ferraris included a Daytona Spyder, Thor Mirchandani's 365 GT, Tony Vacharese's Mondial Cabriolet, Steve Karapetian's 308 GT/4, Rober Allred's 355, two Testsrossas, three 360 Modena and three 328.
Among other Italian cars registered were two Maseratis and two Lamborginis.
This years fetaured marques were Mercedes Benz and BMW. Notable Mercedes icluded a 300 SL Gullwing and the Patina award winning 280 SL of Ann Peoples. BMW ranged from Isetta to the latest 2002 M-series cars. Class winner was the 1974 3.0 CSI of Wayne Mackie. The furthest traveled award went to Skip Patnode's 1967 Alfa Romeo Duetto driven all the way from Norfolk, VA.

As usual the weather gods smiled upon the event - crisp, sunny and decorated with Piedmont fall colors. This year music was performed by Stratford Brass Quartet on the lawn in front of Reynolda House, and The Trinity Brass Quartet in Reynolda Village among the Ferraris, Alfa Romeos, Lamborginis and Maseratis. The Ferrari and Alfa Romeo Clubs gathered for the pos-show party at Dan and Terri Emmi's home.
