May Italian Rendezvous

On the second Tuesday we met at the Kernersville Sagebrush off Business I 40 and exit 14 for our monthly rendezvous. We had a number of interesting sportscars in the carpark including two Ferrari Testarossas, two Ferrari 328s, an Alfa Romeo GTV, an Alfa Romeo Spyder, two MGAs, an MG Midget, VW GTI, a blown Nissan 3000zx , a Porsche and a large truck.

Blake showed his amazing pictures from his April outing to the Amelia Island, Florida Concours d’ Elagance.

Coffee and mutual inspection before the Chapel Hill drive.

Bob Snow, Dan and Terri Emmi, Blake Frazier, Steven Jones and Jim Clarkson shared their adventures on Sunday’s Ferrari Club drive through Orange County. Attending the drive to the village of Fearington and to Aurora of Chapel Hill were Dan and Teri in their Testarossa, Bob and Beth in their 348, Steve and Blake in their 328, Jim and Dorothy in their Testarossa, Adam Beursch in his 512 BBi twin Turbo space ship, Vic and Amy Beaver in their Acura NSX. The cavalcade was evidently so interesting that people pulled over and at one intersection the cars with the right of way blocked traffic so the cavalcade could pass by uninterupted. Conratulations go out to Wendy and Bill Djang for organizing such a nice afternoon.

Jack O’Brien and Don Ferree reported on the Virginia International Raceway Vintage Gran Prix. Don crewed for Jim Myers’ 510 and Jack and Steve Vaughn were spectators. Jack used to race the old course in the 50s and 60s.

A cobra driven by a spirited lady walked the field on Saturday. Hot racers included a 1938 morgan and a Chrysler Hemi Hilborn Fuel Injected car as well as an Allard GT Coupe. Sunday saw the featured event consisting of the MG Gran Prix at 1:30pm for 12 laps over 27 miles.

West Bend Winery and Sunday Drive

Our June event will be the Mid Atlantic Alfa Romeo Club’s Sunday drive the 11th. You can hook up in Raliegh and have brunch at the Weddle’s at 10:30 am and enjoy a spirited and scenic drive to Forsyth County or meet the group at the winery. Given the fact most us are MAARC members, we want to take advantage of the fact their is a MAARC event in our own backyard. Steve Margolis is arranging a 1:30Pm Wine tasting at West Bend Winery in Lewisville. Wine and Cheese will be served as well.

Thor will lead the cavalcade from Lewisville to Tanglewood for the 400 plus car British Car Days South under the 100 year old oaks. John will arrange special parking at the show. Entrance at the park gate costs $2 and their is no cost for the show. Scottish and other foods and beverages will be available at the show.

Thor and I went out to West Bend Winery and drove several routes to pick the quickest and most interesting route from the Winery to Tanglewood. The folks at the winery had us on the list and were excited about our trip. Fro more information call Steve Margolis at 919 785 0220.

We picked the following route and made maps highlighting the route from the winery to British Car Days South to be handed out at the winery. The route is primarially wooded and farms with many log cabins and twisting narrow roads. Since we will not have another meeting before the June 11th drive we will want to coordinate through Thor 336 773 1008 in either meeting at West Bend or driving out together.

To reach West Bend on your own :

Ron and Terrie Weddle are hosting brunch at their place to kick off the drive. This is in Durham. Brunch starts at 9:30am and the cavalcade heads out at 10:30am sharp. The reservation at West Bend is for 1:30pm. If you are attending the brunch call Ron or Terri at 919 479 2064. There is a $5 charge for the wine tasting and bread and cheese and fruit at the Winery. Lets get out our Italian or kindred sportscars for this fabulous event.

From the West Bend Winery:

Give us a call to let us know if you will be coming. RSVP is not necessary but it would be helpful to know who is coming from the Triad to give Steve and idea in terms of the total number attending.

The shops contain everything from clothes, sportswear, antiques, books, music, toys, gourmet cookware and fine foods to jewelry and much more. The village has something for everyone.
