Organized excursions occur all over the United State in all climates. Some Motorcar owners belong to clubs or organizations that sponsor excursions. Club members are required to carry insurance and must operate only with prior approval from the host railroads. Rules are strictly enforced and those not operating safely may be asked to not participate in the event.

On the trip, there is an excursion coordinator and at least one host railroad employee. All Motorcars must pass a complete safety inspection. Operators must also pass an operators exam. Families are always welcome, and a good time can be had by all.
